A friend switch party affiliation this morning
One of my mommy friends and I have been talking politics for 2+ years now. She was registered as a republican, but when we would have discussions she would always agree with my democratic positions. It made no sense to me, but I didn't want to harm the friendship by asking. (I've lost way too many friends because of politics & religion.)

She and I discussed abortion not too long ago and she came down almost militantly in the pro-choice camp. I was stunned. Typically, that is the wedge issue for my mommy friends. Since that wasn't the case with this friend, I asked her point blank why she was registered republican. Her answer?

"I registered to vote when I was still in high school. I thought all republicans were rich and I wanted to be rich."

We talked some more and I pointed her to the platforms of each party. I hadn't heard from her in several months, but this morning she phoned and told me that, after reading the platforms and doing some more research, she changed her affiliation to Democratic.

I wonder how many more are out there like her.

2. Bless you for pointing out the truth
You don't have to get "in your face" about it. Many people register because of that very reason - repubs are "rich" and they want to be rich, too.

Thanks for giving us the good news.

6. Another sick story
My husband and I have owned our own small business for over twenty
years and worked very, very hard and guess we could be considered
upper middle class. My family had always been Democrats as my
husbands and I as I got older and wiser, we believed our parents were
right in their beliefs. We are both very liberal thinking.

Back when Clinton was running for President, we were at dinner with
a wealthy business associate. Politics arose and I said I really
liked that new guy Bill Clinton. With absolute horror, this
wealthy person looked at me as if I had shocked him with a stun gun
and said "People like us do note vote for Democrats". Went on and
on about how the Republicans help people like "us". My husband and
I were disgusted beyond words and learned a lot that evening. Just
made our belief in the Democratic Party that much stronger. What
an awful evening that was but it was an eye opener, that's for sure.

7. Isn't that funny about Republicans and their policies?
They have turned their backs on every other citizen in this country, and then they are shocked, SHOCKED, when no one wants to lay down their lives for them by going to fight one of their wars.

10. Yeah, it's getting harder to get good help these days. That's how they
regard and treat the troops.

8. Yep
One of my friends was the same way. She was a Democrat through and through, but when she married rich, she told me point-blank that she had to vote repub to protect her money.

11. My brother got into a discussion about this very thing with a business
associate during the runup to the Nov. Election

Our family lives on the East Coast and his business associate lives in So. Cal.

Evidently the CA guy said that he used to be Democrat and when he hit a certain income level he had to start voting Repug and that he won't be able to "afford" to vote Dem again until he makes an even higher income. That's how he explained all the "Hollywood liberals" - but that HE wasn't quite there yet

Frankly,I think he sounds like an idiot
