1. God will need tax breaks. A lot of his houses were destroyed.
Especially in Mississippi. The casinos will be rebuilt before many of the churches.

Then there was the Hooters. It survived. Shows you God's priorities.

27. Billy SEEMED kinder, but was as despicable as anyone
He advised Richard Nixon to bomb dikes in Viet Nam to destroy their economy and kill a million people. Even Nixon thought this was extreme. And his quotes to Nixon, caught on tape thought denied for many years by Billy, were as despicably anti-Semite as it gets:

CHICAGO - (KRT) - Rev. Billy Graham openly voiced a belief that Jews control the American media, calling it a "stranglehold" during a 1972 conversation with President Richard Nixon, according to a tape of the Oval Office meeting released Thursday by the National Archives.

"This stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain," the nation's best-known preacher declared as he agreed with a stream of bigoted Nixon comments about Jews and their perceived influence in American life.

"You believe that?" says Nixon after the "stranglehold" comment.

"Yes, sir," says Graham.

"Oh, boy," replies Nixon. "So do I. I can't ever say that but I believe it."

"No, but if you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something," replies Graham.

Later, Graham mentions that he has friends in the media who are Jewish, saying they "swarm around me and are friendly to me." But, he confides to Nixon, "They don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country."

I used to respect him. Now I see that he was just another fundie, but better at hiding his bitter hatred.

8. Sin! Sexual perversion! (snip) Graham reminds me of Travis Bickle...

"One day a REAL rain is gonna come and wash ALL the scum off these streets."
One imagines Franklin in front of the mirror going "You talkin' to me, Satan? You must be talkin' to me, Satan, cuz there ain't no one else here."

"There's been satanic worship. There's been sexual perversion,'' Graham said Monday in an appearance at Liberty University. "God is going to use that storm to bring revival. God has a plan. God has a purpose.''
Graham's comments, reported by The News & Advance of Lynchburg, were made at Thomas Road Baptist Church's Super Conference 2005 at Liberty. Both the church and the university were founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell.
"The good news is that God loves sinners. Jesus Christ is coming back and he's alive,'' said Graham, son and designated successor of the Rev. Billy Graham.
Graham's Samaritan's Purse organization has about 500 volunteers helping put new roofs on houses and clean mud and debris out of homes in Mississippi and Louisiana.
The organization, however, has been the target of criticism because gift bags distributed to displaced children include Christian tracts and a stuffed lamb that plays "Jesus Loves You.''

28. New Orleans will go under the Gulf one day
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 04:34 PM by gulfcoastliberal
Unless they stop the land erosion by diverting at least some of the Mississippi and allowing alluvial deposits to reform some land! The state is sinking into the ocean at an unprecedented and awful pace! No one seems to get it. Oil & gas are of more concern. Never mind the loss of precious wildlife habitat, multi-billion dollar seafood industry, and tourism will go bye-bye. It's all about the French Quarter, baby! Yeah! Flash yer boobs! Ignore reality! The state of Louisiana is at a point of no return if they don't do something drastic.

I highly recommend the book Bayou Farewell The Rich life and Tragic Death of Louisiana's Cajun Coast by Mike Tidwell. It reads like fiction but it's not. Something must be done to stop this crisis.

Spell edit.
