Did Miers really help found a new church with her VVCC pastor?
Everyone says she belongs to VVCC, but this Seattle-Times article says:

"Ron Key, Miers' pastor since the early 1980s, said his church is anti-abortion. Key recently left Valley View Christian Church to found a new church with Miers and others."

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002538146_miersviews04.html

This is the only article I've read (so far) that indicates that Miers helped form her own church. Can someone clarify this for me? Because if it's true, I have to ask if VVCC was too conservative for her, or was it not conservative enough?
:wtf:

(I've searched DU for corroborating statements about this, haven't seen anything, that's why I'm asking in a new thread.)

3. Here is the history of the church:
http://vvcc.org/historygo.asp

Rev. Keys has indeed left in June of 2005. It doesn't say why. They are getting a lot of hits on their web site right now.

I googled all over and couldn't find anything more specific than that.

During the entire time at VVCC, he was never the main pastor. I think he left so he could be the top pastor. But that is a guess on my part.

4. But isn't it odd that the writer of the S-T article
states that Miers left with him to found a new church? It's the only place I've seen that morsel of information thus far, which is why I'm questioning it. Because if she left with him to found a new church, I would then want to know if she felt that VVCC was too conservative or not conservative enough... the answer to that would be quite telling!

Thanks for posting, Silverhair.:)

5. Could easily be personal friendship.
Often, in that type of situation the people that go with the leaving preacher go because of personal attachment, not theology or ideology. That is the way it usually works.

Key may even have left on good terms. The history shows that he was an associate pastor for 33 years, then when the main pastor left (Retired?)he filled in as main pastor until someone could be found. After serving 33 years there, I would have a strong expectation of being asked to permenantly fill the position. To have someone else brought in would make me leave. I would not leave in anger, but I would strongly feel like something was wrong between myself and the church, and that I needed to step aside before I harmed the church.

That is the way I am reading this. I will admit that read is based on very little information of the case, but I have seen it happen before.

6. You may be right on that
If people are going to judge Miers based on her church affiliation, however, it is erroneous for everyone to believe that she is a member of VVCC, and to base their opinions about her on the tenets of that church, when in fact she is no longer a member of VVCC. With so little to go on (no legal paper trail), it would be helpful to learn what her new church stands for. Ordinarily I wouldn't care, but this is a person who is certain to attempt to codify her personal religious beliefs into law, so I think it matters.

Thanks again!

7. New church, same as old church.
Ron Key spend 33 years there. He would not change his theology overnight. He would continue with exactly the same thing that VVCC believed. So the beliefs of VVCC can be reliably used as a guide to what Ms. Miers believes.

8. But what if he/they took a hard turn further right?
That would be an interesting tidbit of info, if that were the case...! But I'm sure you're correct.

Just wish I had more info, that's all.
