the constant anti-saddam propaganda on CNN all summer, the threat of war...
but Powell convinced Bush to go to the UN to get their help, instead of going right to war, so it dragged on and on
The economy kept slowing, the fear of war was in the air, the stock market kept heading down.
By Christmas, lots were out of work, no one wanted to spend anything, I was buying a new house and right after it closed my pay was cut by a dollar an hour right before christmas, then again a few months later. You couldn't quit because you couldnt get find a new job, everyone was in wait and see mode. My friend was cut to part time, then business slowed so much everyone was angry all the time and he was blamed for something not in his control, and forced to quit.
Finally the UN wasnt going to budge, and Powell had to do his lying presentation and say we were going to war anyway. By then the dow had fallen to close to 6000.
After the war finally started, after being delayed far too long, (by that I mean they were determined to go to war, but it was a huge mistake) everything began to bounce back up some, but my pay was never raised back up....
