9. Some place like Finland, I'd guess. Reinaldo Arenas could speak of Cuba,
a dubious beacon of human rights if there ever was one.

Anybody who remains in power for 45 years without an election is a dictator. Castro is no fucking Nelson Mandela. He's no better than any other absolute monarch.

Those troops in Angola weren't spreading flowers. They were killing other human beings in an imperialist war in a country they had nothing to do with and no right to be in, just like the other side.

11. probably iceland
as my heart's compass points, having visited most of the contenders,
and not trusting norwegian authoritarianism.

But given your choices, i would rather be born in china, as the likelihood
that that society will tolerate a diverse population, given the billion
!! is higher. It is not a fair comparison given the population.

Only india and china have to govern so many... even the US is a paltry
tiny nation by population terms comparison.

25. Not anymore I think
I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure Amnesty International (at least the Icelandic branch) criticized the Icelandic government after the Icelandic Human Rights Foundation (Mannréttindastofnun Íslands) was removed from the government budget and forced to rely on donations from individuals and corporations. It has enough funds to last at least past Christmas.

20. A rat
A rat is small enough for the kid to take responsibility for caring
for it, and not so much of an economic burden like a dog or cat.
Rats are very clean, as smart as large animals, and easily house
trained (and cheap). But clearly the best one give your list is the...
"coral snake". ;-)

A cut, bizarre, furry little creature with a venom that's not going to kill you (but you might wish it would).

19. Give me a gun if I have to go to Cuba
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 09:10 PM by Selatius
I'd fight to make the state a democratic socialist regime, and then I'd turn around and organize the people into voluntary collectives like those seen in Spain during the civil war.

Of course, I'd rather not fight until last resort or go to Cuba until last resort, but if I was forced onto that island, might as well make the best of it.

Not that I know anything about Poland's human rights, I just like throwing that into the conversation every now and again.
