Anyone else think Miers is being offered up as a sacrificial lamb?
You know, set up to fail? That way they can put up someone with a NeoCon paper trail and make the Dems who didn't support the first choice look like they're blocking?

Just asking. Still trying to get my head around this whole thing, including Cheney's SRO "Miers is just alright with me" tour.

Thoughts?

2. I don't think so
Shrub is just so much of an egotist that he wants this. Himself. Personally.

12. How can he afford to let her go?
She's held his hand, she's wiped his ass. What will he do? Is he really prepared to lose her?

5. She's too old to be wearing eyeliner on her lower lids like that.
I think she's supposed to be transient, like a hooker.

6. How's she going to "fail?" The Dems will approve her.
I don't get how the logistics work on her being set up to fail.

There's no big outcry, nor will there be one, from the Dem side.

Bush didn't realize how horribly his base would react to her because in his mind she's anti-abortion and that's throwing a bone to the fundies.

10. Because there are R House and Senate members alike
who have no idea who she is or why she'd be nominated other than being *'s "work wife". Roberts, everyone knew him. I don't know for sure they'll get the votes if she won't answer questions or they don't like the answers.

The base wanted a stronger winger. Not happy.

9. Doubtful
Doubtful. Dimsun put his own "convictions" on the line on this one... I think he wants her regardless of what the rank and file GOP wants. If there is a fight (and I think there'll be one), I have a feeling it'll come from the far right of the far right of the right.

He's pissing off his own base and I'm getting a guilty pleasure watching it happen.

It was odd watching the announcement today... it seemed as though he was repeating his "I've seen into the soul of Putin" speech.

15. I love to watch.

I think you're correct about the rightest of the right. I stand amazed they slapped the fundies in the face like that.

14. Don't think so
I doubt Bush would ever want to even have a fake failure. Miers just seems like the bland wacko rightwinger that he would pick.

How about a secret Rovian plot? :)

She's a bit strange. I felt uneasy watching her yesterday.
Also, she reminds me of a friend of one's grandmother who always smells of too much perfume.

17. No.
Bush needs her long-term silence. She was the one that gave him the August 6 Bin Laden memo. She's been his counsel since his criminal activity was limited to Texas. She knows where the proverbial bodies are buried.

He either badly miscalculated the public's reaction, or he's planning some of his old Bush Crime Family tricks to strongarm her into the SCOTUS seat. But either way, it's a reward (and a payoff) to a trusted crony, nothing more, nothing less.
