5. Doesn't it just want to make you scream!!!!!!
Take to the streets people!!! What country do we live in again????

and by the way, what prevents Bill from running again anyway? It wouldn't be a consecutive triple term ... wouldn't the 8 year break count?

wishful thinking I guess

9. No, 2 terms is all you get
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 11:21 PM by China_cat
BUT...it would be a great way to put an end to the republican hopes for changing that law back to however many terms you can get (s)elected for.

Put him up to run again with a strong candidate in the background for when the SC HAS to uphold the 2 term limit. They couldn't possibly strike it down for a Democrat.

18. The SCOTUS cannot strike down the 2 term limit. It is in the Constitution.

19. No it isn't.
One of the amendments, maybe, but until after FDR, you could have as many terms as you could get elected for. FDR himself was elected for 4, Truman finishing out the last.

The republicans worked very hard to get the rule changed to 2 terms because of that and it's been in place right around 60 years now.

Now, of course, repubs are trying to scrap it and have been for the last 5 years.

20. Amendments are a part of the Constitution. That is why Republicans want
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 11:05 AM by beyurslf
all of their unconstitutional ideas to be amendments. Things like banning gay marriage could be challenged unless they are amendments. A court cannot overturn a constitutional amendment because it is a part of the document.

If amendments are not considered part of the constitution, then the freedom of speech, the right to vote for anyone other land-owning white males, and right to a trial by jury are all not in the constitution.

21. Amendments are the part of the constitution
that can be struck down, changed, repealed, etc. The body of the constitution can't. And, at the rate they're going, the ones you cited are already down the crapper without even thinking about the legal process of getting rid of them.

22. Amendments cannot be struck down as unconstitutional. They can be repealed
or changed. However, ANY part of the constitution can be repealed or changed by another amendment.

12. Why Are You Whipping This Dead Horse?
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 11:35 PM by rwenos
I know many lefties hate Big Bill. All he did was win two terms in the White House. The only two other Democrats to do that in the last 105 years were Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt.

Yeah, Big Bill sucks all right. Sounds like you're a Naderite. Hey, your man cost us the White House in 2000. Happy?

13. You think I am a Naderite?
Um, you need to go back and read some of my old posts.

I was very nearly banned from this board on the night of the start of the Iraq War for Green bashing.

I believe the my OP was called something like "Nader voters you caused this!".

16. OK, So You're Not a Naderite
But you sound like one. I've got several liberal friends who despise Big Bill, and a few Naderite acquaintances who feel the same way. I'm a moderate Democrat myself, and I also believe that just about any yellow dog Democrat is better than ANY Republican. We've had so many detestable Republican presidents in my lifetime.

I'm disgusted enough by my memories of the Nixon, Reagan, Bush 41 and current fascist bastard presidencies that I will light a candle for Big Bill as long as I live -- he slipped EIGHT YEARS in on the Suits. For this, I will always love him.

10. Big Bill - I Love the Guy
It's SO embarassing to any thinking person to see Big Bill spreading love among real people -- and then think of that sophomoric little sh*t looking out the window of Air Force One, like it was all so much television.

The difference between a MAN and a boy.

We shall not see Big Bill's like again, anytime soon.

Where are all the Democratic giants?

14. What a contrast...somebody with REAL compassion
This morning, I turned on CNN just in time to hear something about the survivors going back to NOLA to question "where is my fine china, where are my priceless paintings"...this is when I actually spat on his image on my TV.

This just goes to show how incredibly shallow he is.

So many people are still missing, so many lives disrupted, and the many who have died tragically are not mentioned. What does he think of? Expensive crap, stuff you can't take with you when you die anyway.

I am deeply ashamed and I grieve for those who have lost their HOMES, JOBS and LOVED ONES. The damned bankruptcy laws won't even help them because they can't get to the records to file in time. All the records are GONE in most instances.

Bill GETS it.
