2. That someone is me.. however,,.
I would never actually commit suicide. I have a long history of depression and anxiety which as destroyed my academic life.

4. Every college campus has a mental health professional staff.
Please make an appointment to talk to someone at your college. You can receive counseling for a greatly reduced rate if you are student.

Please.

11. But you asked the question. So are you worried that you've moved
from ideation to behavior?

I couldn't agree more with those here who advise you to seek real world help now.

3. First off, I must ask...
are you referring to yourself or a friend/relative?

If you are considering suicide, I beg you to talk to someone in the real world, and not to take advice here.

But if you are talking about someone you care about, then maybe DUers can share their experiences and it may help.

12. Both
I've known 2 people who took their own lives. I have also at many times in my own life experienced what professionals refer to as suicidal ideation. That is, I haven't actually attempted it but have thought about it extensively and even gone so far as to plan out various scenarios. I was able to overcome my most recent bout of it 7 years ago through therapy and medication. I still suffer from depression and anxiety frequently, but the suicidal thoughts are rare.

I can't speak for the people I knew who did it but for me thinking about suicide functioned as sort of a relief valve, as odd as that sounds. It's like I carried my black thoughts to their logical conclusion in my mind and suicide was the escape to it all. I certainly didn't want to die but I couldn't see an end to the pain of my existence. So I'd think, I'll keep trying but if it doesn't work out (and it never did but I couldn't see that I needed medical help at the time) I can just kill myself and it will finally be over. And that would actually provide me with a small comfort. Enough to get me through the day. Shitty way to live. And unfortunately, too many people do carry out the plan.

13. Thanks for the replies..
Currently I am down yes but not really suicidal, I have been worse in the past but never really came close to even attempting. Our family has a history depression, my father suffered a nervous breakdown when he was about my age or a little older. The worst part has been how much this has played around with gym academic life. I've had a life long struggle with school despite being a straight A student when I am not down. I am currently thinking of dropping out of university, for like the 4th time, and just working full, at 7-11, time for a while, while I get things sorted out mentally. I am currently working part time at 7/11. School has been at the centre of my problems most of my life, when I'm working at my current job I don't feel depressed.

15. Please visit the mental health professional at your university.
They are there to help students through precisely the same problems that you are experiencing.

One decision at a time. ;)

17. Are you saying that you are not acutely suicidal right now?
If that's the case, Do you have people in your life
that you can reach out to?

Just don't isolate yourself.

18. School especially with exams and
fianls can trigger the anxiety, and you know this.

I still want you to contact a mental health profesional ASAP...

By the way depresion does run in my family, though I have not had any depresion in years... you may want to consider therapy and meds while working full time at the 7\11

But plase whatever you do, GET HELP... ASAP... I know you don't feel it is as bad as other times, but it can get out of control so don't dismiss this and get help.

Oh and some of us are open to receiving PMs, ok, so if you need somebody to talk to, or just plain help yuou get hte help, even at distance we are willing to go the distance ok.

The bushies sentanced me to a lifetime with a chronic neurological disease without parole. My advice to you is take tomarrow off, have a good breakfeast, go to the gym, see a movie, than regroup and re organize. you can do it. Hell man I am still fighting and you can too. Worse case scenario drop a course or two and retake em next year. In the mean time you can pm me any time that you feel like you need a friend and keep that jab up . Think of school as a twelve round boxing match won on points not as a one round knock out.

14. Yes, yes and no
It's hell either way. If you or someone you know is suicidal get help STAT. Here are some sites that may be of assistance:

Befrienders Worldwide

The Samaritans (Despite the sound of the name, this is not a religious-based organization)

Suicide Hotlines.com

Please don't go this alone!

I am very concerned about you, LocutOs. And take at face value your claim that you are not contemplating suicide this morning. That said, given the circumstances you outlined in some of your posts in this thread, even a rhetorical conversation about suicide is not a good idea here and now. DUers are incredibly kind and caring - but are also - as many have pointed out here - not qualified to provide mental health counseling services.

That said, some of them have provided some excellent links for you, and I think every DUer who has replied to this thread so far, myself included, is open to recieving PMs from you any time you need to talk. If you need a crisis hotline number, you can call 1-800-784-2433.

Please understand that we take any hint of being suicidal here on DU very seriously. I know I'd rather shut down 100 threads that just casually speak of suicide than lose one single DUer - or human being of any political persuasion - to their own hand.

Sincerely,
southlandshari
