Notice Bush says be scared of bird flu and the media runs with it?
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 10:01 AM by NNN0LHI
They are all such good little puppies ain't they? Can't wait to hear Lou Dobbs cranking up the flu fear for Bush Baby tonight. He has his new flu talking points down pat I am sure. Bet he has "experts" on and everything tonight. Take that to the bank.

This is starting to remind me of the WMD scam they helped Bush pull off. Be scared alright. Not of the flu either. Of Bush and his minions.

All fear, all the time.

2. Lou Dobbs doth protest too much...
I'm sure he means well but he drones on and on until be beats his audience and subject to death. And why must he qualify every statement..."as it were" or some other piece of drivel. His campaigns, like his sentences go on too long, we wonder if his programs should be called weekly "causes" or news. Maybe its me, perhaps I just like it fast and factual. The only one who comes close is Olbermann.

5. BING BING BING! We have a WINNER!
This is EXACTLY what is going on. The sooner the better, as far as BushCo's concerned, before any pesky hearings get underway which might derail his plans. He needs an outbreak and he needs one fast. America won't buy another terra attack; too costly politically, post-Katrina. But if everyone in every corner of the country can be made afraid of imminent, scary, mysterious death from an invisible enemy, then we'd damned well better stop debating stupid legalities, and get those troops in place!

Eugenics. Nazi-ism. These guys have a long family history, and aren't afraid to kill mass amounts of people in order to achieve their goals of a complete societal makeover. Welcome the new Corporatocracy. Oligarchy is your friend. Fascism lives. You see? Bush CAN multi-task!

4. Michael Moore had it exactly
right in "Bowling For Columbine"!

Also, there was a thread last night from a DUer who said his Doc told him.."that S.O.B (meaning Bush) is trying to scare Americans into submission for his own little games. He also said that it is not an airborne virus that if you wash your hands on a regular basis (after touching things from other people) thats half the battle)."

11. It is "airborne" in that it is carried by

migratory birds across international borders. Quarantine cannot contain this.

14. Oh, bush thinks "it's an
important issue to discuss", does he? Then it must be on the road to making him dic-tator.

Thanks for this info.

8. I think the recent alarming UN report
is what really set off the recent focus on this.

Though I wish the media would also inform the public about other important UN reports as well, reports on things such as human rights, global warming etc.

9. I think *'s need to deflect attention from his lousy SCOTUS choice
is the reason for his sudden "discovery" of avian flu. It's exactly like how he would ramp up the Terror Alert Level whenever he was in political trouble (Tom Ridge pretty much exposed this charade).

If avian flu is truly a problem that needs to be addressed right now, then why didn't he have someone from CDC or NIH or WHO with him at the "press conference", or available immediately thereafter?

I am also reminded how he injected a non sequitor about child slavery into a speech he gave to the U.N. while he was lobbying for his war. We haven't heard a single word about that issue since that day.

10. of course everything
Bush says and does has a self serving motive, and anything that promotes fear will be used to.. well, promote fear.

My point was that the media (who also like fearful stories) had already been talking about the UN report, so I'm not sure they are only running on Bush's cue in this case. Of course Bush knows that by talking about it, it will keep the story alive for awhile.
Both 'entities' love to push the 'fear factor'.

12. This isn't the first "alarming UN report" concerning avian flu
They have been releasing alarming reports for years but now all of a sudden because Chimpy brings it up its a big deal. Don't give me that crap about that the UN caused the fear to be cranked up on cable news all of a sudden and that Bush's cue didn't have nothing to do with it. Because that dog don't hunt.

13. I don't know
I certainly agree that the media does willingly serve as a propaganda outlet for the WH. You may be right or maybe their motives have overlapped in this case (hyping fear). The result is the same I suppose.

15. Did China or anyone else use troops to isolate "quarantined" areas?
All I can find is use of police in China to quell rioting...and use of troops in Thailand to kill chickens.

16. For the WH, it's Marketing 101: Create a new "psychological anchor" for
an old message -- only the Republican Party can protect you from ... ???

(the bogeyman of the moment). "Terra" doesn't cut it any more--look at Dubya's poll numbers.

What better new bogeyman than bird flu? A guest on CNN just gave middle America the ultimate scare: When influenz hit WWI troops, it was impossible to tell whether a corpse was BLACK or WHITE!

Millions who succumb to this new propaganda will shudder whenever they see a sparrow, starling, pigeon--ANY BIRD! ... Then they'll find comfort in thoughts of Big Brother Cheney, or of Little Brother Dubya. Their security blankets, even though they've squandered trillions of dollars to actually DESTROY strong pre-2000 disaster protection and relief capabilities.

TV "news" producers can get into this game simply by showing birds in flight or -- better yet -- birds being examined by ornithologists. Cheap stories to produce--all that you need is a camera and a bird.
