I think Reid suckered Bush into making a fool of himself. |
|
This Meirs nomination is turning into an embarrassment for Bush. George Will's column is decimating. Forget the "oh horrors, she's a southern baptist" silliness going around DU, there are turning out to be serious political issues with her, her law firm's history of fraud, her personal involvement in the august 9, 2001 memo, the greatest example of poor judgment and incompetence in american history, and her embarrassing lack of qualifications. I don't see her making it, this one just may be withdrawn.
Yet Harry Reid apparently "suggested" her name to Bush, which has caused some puzzlement. Why would he do such a thing?
Well, they say that when your opponent is fucking up, the best thing to do is get out of his way and let him self-destruct.
I am starting to wonder if Reid is smarter by half than I thought, that he actually egged Bush on to do this because he knoew it would be embarrassing and make Bush look typically Bushian - incompetent, cronyistic, all in all a lightweight; because in the end thats what this appointment is, lightweight, incompetent, just plain stupid.

to vote for her either. There will be enough stuff coming up for him to say that he's changed his mind with all this new info. A brilliant move. She is a born-again and very much "pro-life" -- and there is nothing better than objections to her on both sides because of uncertainty and her low stature. In the meantime, the GOP will be eating their own and the confirmation process will be quite embarrassing to B. Someone said the same on NPR this morning -- a political science expert. He is pretty convinced Reid did it to provoke rift in GOP.

15. When did she become a "borg-again"? |
|
Someone noted that her physical appearance has deteriorated a lot in the past few years. I usually don't care what people look like, but sometimes a deterioration like this can be a result of internal conflict, drug abuse, etc. I'm wondering if her being "born again" coincided with her getting in bed with the weed, and if so, what does it mean?

26. I'm just wondering when she decided to cut off the Texas big hair. |
|
Photos from 1997 show her looking pretty rough. Maybe she just didn't age well. Too much sunshine and no sunscreen can just ruin one's skin. But the hair thing, just how recent is that? It might give us a clue as to when George decided to nominate her.

A former Texas Lottery official said he wants to talk to senators about the Supreme Court nominee's role in covering up his Bush's record Advertisement By Ken Herman
WASHINGTON BUREAU
Tuesday, October 4, 2005
WASHINGTON -- A former Texas lottery official, who claimed that then-Gov. George W. Bush's desire to cover up his National Guard record helped steer decisions about a key lottery contract, said he wants to talk to senators about Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' possible role in that effort

|

It could be a bit of brilliant counter psyops in the sense that this nomination puts the sleaze and slime of Texas politics back up for discussion. Dem's can now begin asking new questions about Smirky's Big Adventure in Uniform and the TX lottery. I hope that Reid is correct and that his glowing words for Miers are akin to throwing the drowning Smirkenfuhrer Admin. a stone life preserver.

13. Seriously, why the optimism? |
|
Why is everyone so happy over another unqualified Bush crony who's certain to vote pro-life given the chance? Who would throw him or his kin another election if she could? Who will go before a goose-stepping rethug controlled congress? And who cares what Harry Reid says or does, I don't even know if the media know who he is.

17. I will be VERY surprised if at the end of the day she is actually |
|
confirmed. I suspect there will be a strong -- bipartisan :) -- opposition to her at the end of the hearings. In the meantime, it chews up time, B. is utterly humiliated by all the bad press and pronouncements of his fellow conservatives, O'Connor is persuaded to stay on the job longer, and he needs to come up with another candidate, and this time a true conservative to pacify his base, and the Dems filibuster that one. You can be pretty certain that all polls will be supporting the Dems and not B, and please let me know in the real world we live in now, what could have been a better outcome? B. nominating a liberal? The spectacle of people even suspecting that Reid has made an utter fool out of B is delicious in itself.

25. She's have to eat a lot of ego to agree to withdrawal of her nomination |
|
Now that her name is "OUT THERE", all bets are off if the WH expected her to withdraw in shame as an incompetent, in favor of a Janice Rogers Brown or worse. This is Harriet Miers's MOMENT in the spotlight. And anybody who tries to grab her chance to slink onto indelible pages of history at the USSC had better think about all the dirt she has on Dubya.
She evidently was a DLC Democrat just 17 years ago, when she contributed to Al Gore's 1988 campaign. Her attachment to the Rethugs is just a dalliance considering that evdently she was a Domocrat more than twice that long.
She could threaten Dubya with exposure of first-hand accounts his inaction on the Osama PDB, her $19,000 deep-sixing of records of his AWOL and DUI, etc.
