1. Not only not religious |
|
but an aetheist or at least an agnostic. I would like someone who thinks for themself. I know not all religious people don't think for themselves, but it is so easy to "leave it in god's hands," and that is a cop out to me.

13. America will elect an "out" Atheist when Hell freezes over. |
|
Yes, I meant that as a joke, but I'd say we're still at least fifty to a hundred years too primitive to even *CONSIDER* electing atheists to positions of power.

2. The overtly religious usually follow their god first and the country |
|
somewhere down the line. If they feel this country is founded on "christian" principles, there should be no problem upholding the Constitution as part of their worship. Of course, we know that's not what happens in Fundie-land

I would go with the hispanic person in tune with his or her culture, but i would expect that person to have a good knowledge and a healthy respect for other ways of thinking. I am not sure there is a singular mindset that one could define as "our way of thinking."

my posts today are stirring up a bit of a shit storm. the main point is that people like * and Meirs claim to believe in the literal interpretation of the bible and pander to fundamentalists who do not have a good knowledge and a healthy respect for other ways of thinking. this leads me to the conclusion that they do not respect other ways of thinking.

9. had to pick not religious at all, but wouldn't mind anyone who |
|
had a strong 'spiritual' part of themself. I say strong, because I believe those who truly feel complete and satisfied in their 'faith' don't need to convince everyone in the world to conform to 'their' view of what 'faith' is.

But really I feel that it is not a problem for an elected official to be religious. As long as they understand that not everyone in the country has the same beliefs, and that their job is to run the country, not dictate religious beliefs or form social standards around those religious beliefs.
