Am I being Paranoid? I Just Picked Up My DC Protest Photos and
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 12:11 PM by leftchick
I use Ritz Camera and have for at least ten years. I went to pick up my digital photos from the DC protest and the Manager checked me out. For the very first time ever he asked me where my photos were from. Did I go on a trip? I said yes to DC for the anti-war protest, would you like to see them?

He did a poor job of being interested in the actual photos as I showed him a few. I explained the huge crowd, the street theater and all of the sudden I got uncomfortable. It seemed too weird for him asking me this. I put the photos away and finished the transaction. He threw away my receipt on the photo container.

I wonder if that photo container receipt had me tagged as suspicious of something? He certainly became chatty after he picked them up. It was very out of character for him.

Should I be waiting for my SS visit or Dark SUVs in front of my door for having photos like this?

7. I read that this morning before I left
That is where the paranoia started from I am sure.

9. Take it in stride. If something happens, just let us know.

2. You want us to take ours to the same place and see if we get chatted up
the same way?

;)

Be glad to--otherwise, I'll just head on over to Eckerds as usual.

5. Now there is a thought...
You know what is weird? About 3 of the employees have Kerry/Edwards bumperstickers. I never would have thought to get a reaction like that in there.

psst.... It is the Friendly Center one. ;)

10. Could also be that he wished he was able to voice his own feelings about
BushInc but company policy won't allow political discussion.

4. Possibly he wished he was there, or awareness is beginning to dawn
I have encountered a few people who were either apolitical or even voted for *, who are just now beginning to realize what a disaster he is.

Sometimes they feel sheepish about being interested in politics at all (after a lifetime of denying any interest) or they feel ashamed about having supported *.

So they ask questions and try to become familiar and comfortable with the idea of opposing *.

6. Be afraid
There's another thread here on DU about some kid being picked up by the Secret Service because he had a photo with a thumbtack in Bush's head. Some photo developer had reported the kid.
Who do these film developers think they are? Makes you want to take up film developing as a hobby so you can avoid idiots like that.

12. photo labs
you all need to find a photo lab, not a walmart or drugstore, where your local professional photographers get their film processed. Or get a film mailer and send it out for processing. Or take your film to a photography class student at a local community college. Snow White had a problem with a drugstore that lost her film. After a few weeks they gave her a couple rolls of film to replace what they lost. Snow was a pretty laid back lady. She wrote a song about her experience with her lost film. She called it, "Someday My Prints Will Come." And no, she didn't write a song with the same title about her boyfriend who couldn't get it up.

24. I haven't taken photos anywhere to get developed
since I got my digital camera and my photo printer. Any size up to an 8 x 10 is fine for personal use and if you do want or need total perfection, you can take your digital photo for professional printing.

11. May have been wondering where the huge crowd was.
All his info said DC only had thousands, not the hundreds of thousands your photos proved. When you said DC his brain got jammed with the disconnect of what he has been told vs what he has just seen. It was uncomfortable, and his social abilities crashed.

Might be interesting to wander back in there in a few days, buy some film, see if there are any questions he might have.

A brainwashed zombie might be awakening there.

13. Yup. Bush has regular civilians taking on policing roles.. and scientific
ones. Very scary when a WH creates so much propaganda that the deluded run around in packs like minutemen acting on baser instincts and taking on roles they have no qualifications for.

Don't know if your manager was one of them. Perhaps Homeland security has actually asked photo store managers to look out for "A-rabs" doing reconnaissance.. but I would think "hot button" would be photos of nuclear facilities and the like.

15. I would love to see your photos
I put mine on a Power Point slideshow and I've posted them here before. If you haven't seen them, you can access them through this link. If you dont' have PP, you can download it for free through the second link.

18. Thank you RIM!
I would also love to share the rest of mine but I am a clueless photo poster. I am only able to do one at a time and I have about 90 or so. I have no idea how to do a slideshow. :(

It was time-consuming, but it wasn't difficult on Power Point. If you decide to do one on PP, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

but after you brought them out, realized he could quickly and easily go over some corporate policy line about viewing photos or talking politics with customers.

17. Paranoia is a healthy reaction to our current political environment.
Paranoia creates caution.

I have found that if someone asks what I consider to be intrusive questions, the best response is, "Why do you want to know?" Their reaction to that question will usually clue you in as to what they really want.

I'm glad you educated him. It's a long, tiresome task, but sometimes it pays off :)

19. It's not a question of whether you are paranoid, but are you paranoid
enough. Do not confuse "healthy caution" for "paranoia". Between TIPS, data mining, and who knows what all, it doesn't hurt to be a bit paranoid. It could be an innocent question, after all, the protests didn't get much MSM coverage from what I could see, and maybe he sincerely wondered where it was.

22. He might have agreed with the message. My "Bush lied" sticker gets
lots of positive comments from people in parking lots.

Dont be ashamed of your political views! Flaunt them! This is America, not namby-pamby Europe where people have to be afraid of offending someone with their free political expression.

25. Might be time
possibly the holidays for you to purchase yourself a digital camera.
I think you can get a nice one for 100 to 150. Then if you want to make prints out of any of them you can just purchase the photo paper.

No one's business what you take photo's of.
