People it is time.
Many of us here in the US of A are frustrated and angered by everything that has taken place in our nation. Many of us have tried all that we can to make a difference to this world in which we live. Many of us have voiced our opinions, protested, refused to buy into the corporate media--but still we feel as if nothing is working. Most feel as if there is nothing we can do anymore to make things any better. Well, we have an idea.

We the People need a voice, one loud resonating voice that speaks for us all. That is hard to find in a nation where everyone wants to be heard but nobody wants to really listen. Well what if we made our voice of one mean something, something that they can’t silence, and something they cannot ridicule or belittle, where they can’t threaten us, but something that would be felt as an extreme wakeup call to the nation that We the People live in. What if we speak as one and say we are not going to put up with it anymore and we are here and it’s time to listen?

This idea is for everyone. Each one of us can participate in this activity, you need not have money to fly anywhere, you need not go to the corner and picket, and you need not say a single word.

What if I told you that We the People could be heard the loudest and angriest by doing absolutely nothing? That’s right; We the People do absolutely nothing for one whole day all around the nation. We make it a day of refusal, as if we are all a bunch of two years old that are standing in one place and we are saying NO!! We refuse to work, to buy anything, to go shopping, and go out to eat. We refuse to buy their gas; we won’t visit the grocery stores; we won’t spend a dime for one single day. We take that much needed vacation day that many of us have not been able to take for ourselves yet. Our voice could then be heard.

People, we can spend a large amount of time screaming at the top of our lungs for them to listen, but until we let them know that we DO have the power and we will USE that power to do whatever it will take to make them hear us and know that we are SERIOUS about what we are saying and we ARE going to do something about it, we will never get their attention. We the People have the power, inside each and every one of us, to be heard.

For one day we refuse to participate in these administration crimes. For one day we become a voice, and we amplify that voice around the nation. For one day we stop and say NO MORE. If we all joined forces, disgruntled Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Greens, Blacks, Whites and Browns, old and young, big and small, saying the same thing at the exact same moment, they just might hear us. If for one day we all came together to speak the same words at the same time, then our voices would be heard.

People, it’s time to combine our voices into one, to feed all of the energies that we are all separately using and bring them into a single energy that will be heard by the people that need to listen. We have a day of refusal.

For all those that are serious, please sign this commitment that we will make NOVEMBER 2 our official day of refusal. Knowing that one voice is being heard and that we all can participate would give us a much needed connection of the energies that we are all spreading separately around this nation. Let’s unite our voices into one. What do you say?

1. It is a great idea, but...
Edited on Wed Oct-05-05 12:29 PM by Atman
This was called for last year. Perhaps it wasn't "time" then, as nothing gelled. But I'm afraid nothing will come of it if tried again. Americans are simply too selfish, as a lot, to pull this off. When Susie Soccer Mom has to take the kids to practice but the SUV is low on petrol, she'll rationalize that no one will notice her one tankful. You'll have the inevitable nay-sayers who believe we're all conspiracy nuts, no matter what evidence is shown.

Personally, I think a total workers' strike would work better. And not for a day. Shut down everything for a week. No insurance offices, no help desks, no factories, no busses, no mail. Nothing. But again, this takes enormous cajones, and more importanly, MONEY. Who the hell can afford to take even one day off, let alone a week? We learned nothing from the struggles of our brothers in Poland, though the strikes and struggles were telecast for months.

Oh...yeah...months. Until we have a leader to inspire us, this won't fly. People are sheep. They won't act alone, even if they're alone among a group of 20 million...they need and want direction, leadership, and a conviction that what they're doing will make a difference. A one day strike will cause the corporatists no pain whatsoever. One week will be a wake-up call, but little else. For such a move to actually affect change, we need our own Lech Walenska, and a similar, recognizable Solidarnosc movement.

We're leaderless and rudderless, and that is the most dangerous way to set sail on a mission frought with so many unknowables.

2. I buy virtually nothing but gas and groceries anyway
unless I fast, I am going to have to buy more the next time I shop and therefore it really isn't a boycott.

I'm willing to do it because it is just a logistical thing, but in the long run I think the money will be a wash.

16. everybody includes workers. please, instead of naysaying, maybe
put your energy into contacting labor orgs to make certain they know about this. they need this as much as everyone does.

i think we should all be contacting them about this, make sure they know about it, and that we will all do our part.

20. It is gelling this year -- have you heard the
ads on Air America Radio? Mike Malloy has invested a bunch of time on several different shows to talk about World Can't Wait.

It's gelling -- what happens next is up to us --

15. yes. too lazy to get up and do, but not to sit and pound out their anger
at it all, here.

it's killing me, i swear.
out there in the sun, in the snow, walking and walking and marching

in our little groups

caring, for all the others

and knowing we are running out of time. fast. too fast for politics as usual. but no hope people will go the lengths...

one article i loved, as painful as it was, was "Are Americans Too Craven...?" to put our personal freedom, much less our lives on the line to stop torture-in-our-name, this insane occupation, and so on.

too cowardly.
not even. simply too lazy and overindulged, or ignorant, i think.

goddess help us all, folks, we better be out there on the 2nd!

or stop pretending that we care at all.

thank you, nadinbrzezinski.

in solidarity

7. but..... no........ I....... can't......
Folks, you just don't get it. 9.24.2005 occurred because people needed to make a difference. They traveled from around the country, at their own expense, to make their presence felt. 250,000 patriots put themselves out to make a point.

Pardon me, but WHY THE FUCK am I hearing lame-ass excuses on why you can't do a simple thing? It's all about $$$$$ to the corporations running this country. That's the only thing they understand. Not doing anything, not spending anything, not buying anything, nothing, nada, zippidy-doo-dah, zero. Do you seriously believe that won't be noticed?

Maybe we have to hit the streets in a general strike - who knows? One day, five days, more? What's worse, letting everything your family has worked for AND YOUR CIVIL LIBERTIES disappear or spending a few hours in a holding tank?

It worked in Europe and it will work here. Grover Norquist had it right: starve the beast and drown it in a bathtub. How many days of general strike will *'s corporate masters allow?

22. Let me elaborate
I work for a small nonprofit hunger relief organization. If I don't show up, people who need food may not get it because we have a very small staff.

I think the fact that I got arrested in front of the White House a couple weeks ago protesting this godforsaken war should keep my karma safe.

Peace.

it is not your karma i think is in danger. i have seen all you do, meganmonkey.

please discuss this with your colleagues with an eye on how the whole org can participate?

25. thank you for replying. to clarify what i misstated, i have seen on DU
that you do works, and contribute, constantly.

a time is fast approaching when we will all be wishing we'd done much more, while we still could.
we still can, but not for long.

this is more critical than words can express.

well, other than truly frightening words about what is fast approaching if we do not go ALL OUT, IMMEDIATELY.

what you wrote about not apologizing...

you see, it's just that it is not *us* you're going to feel apologetic to. i'm sorry i misstated that - and my comment about seeing "all you do," by which i meant i see even some of "how much you do."

28. No worries
I know what you are saying, and I appreciate it. I just fear that not enough people will participate for this to be as meaningful and powerful as it should be.

I think I also may be a little defensive because despite the things I have done, it isn't enough. I wish I could do more. Part of me wants to quit my job and just start fucking things up full time, you know what I mean?

We need a popular uprising of some sort, and this could be a start. I really hope so...

10. Imagine that after not spending any $ on Nov 2, that on Nov 3 one ...
... might be even more inclined to not spend any $

... and by Nov 4 one might begin enjoying watching the consequences and want to see what happens on Nov 5 if no $ are spent on the 4th

... and by Nov 6 it could be really, really interesting how many folk are suddenly paying very close attention to "We The People ..."

particularly if we have very specific demands, like:

1. Mr Bush and Mr Cheney and Senator Frist and Congressman DeLay must resign immediately

2. Sibel Edmonds must be allowed to testify before both chambers of Congress and on national TV

3. All our troops and other citizens must be out of Iraq by April 1, 2006

4. Independent commissions with full subpoena power to investigate 9/11; Plame/WMD scandal; the 2000 and 2004 National Elections; the failed Federal response to Katrina and the no-bid contract fiasco subsequent to Katrina; Bush's torture policies and practices; ....

5. Immediate release of ALL OF Bush's White House papers

To name a few.

Peace.

Not just a dime. A protest, a strike. Keep building on this idea.
I have one silly thing, that I think might be a simple idea now to get a bit of the word out- hit other news groups, threads wherever you go, Put this in your siggy lines or post related pics etc. Get lawn signs from impeachbush.org-pay as low as you have to for them, or as much as you can. So much is going on -we have to make them get a clue. I ordered a bunch of stickers and want to put them everywhere they might be seen. I want more of those World Can't Wait Ones too. http://jarnocan.blogspot.com
One little idea;
Go to that classmates.com and upload a couple free profile pics- ones of you (or someone) holding a protest sign and put www.worldcantwait.org somewhere in your profile. You can always use a toss off free e-mail addy (iwon.com etc.) People do look at the pics I think from time to time.
http://www.congressweb.com/cweb4/index.cfm?orgcode=VTUSA&hotissue=1 Please sign this if you haven't. this also will help US in restoring our democracy, and the Bu**sh**ers will fught US on this as well.
You can call your members of Congress right now on one of these toll-free numbers, tell them You want an end to the war, whatever....

National Call on Novemer 2, 2005

On November 2, the first anniversary of Bush’s “re-election”, we will take the first major step in this by organizing a truly massive day of resistance all over this country. People everywhere will walk out of school, they will take off work, they will come to the downtowns and town squares and set out from there, going through the streets and calling on many more to JOIN US. They will repudiate this criminal regime, making a powerful statement: “NO! THIS REGIME DOES NOT REPRESENT US! AND WE WILL DRIVE IT OUT!”
-snip-

***

there will probably be others near you doing that, too. i am sure that ways to find out who and where will be appearing around here.
even if others there do not, just walking out to your downtown or town square or park, or whatever, and asking others to join you would contribute.

peace!
