Are we going to run out of fuel before we wreck |
|
the environment or will Mother Nature shut us down while we still have a few gallons of gas left? It will be a damn close-run thing and I would like your opinions on this?

1. If we suck all the oil out of the earth |
|
I think we will just implode.
Okay, that's dumb. But when you bleed something to death, it shrivels up.

If we suck all the oil out of the Earth, the axle bearings will overheat and seize up. One day, the Earth will just abruptly stop spinning and we'll all get thrown off.

4. Which will speed the consumption of fossil fuels... |

Which will speed the rate of climate change...
Lather, rinse repeat.
We're addicted, and we need a twelve-step.

3. I was wondering the same thing. |

Looks like it'll come down to the wire with mother nature coming up short but not before leaving a serious dent.

5. Out of worthwhile petroleum first. |
|
We've got the global warming ball rolling pretty good. But that's a longer term thing whose momentum will have effects for decades beyond the time we are no longer burning significant amounts of fossil fuels. We'll be dealing with the economic and power infrastructure problems of life without oil before the environment gets really nasty.

7. Peak Oil is THE big secret |
|
once people finally wake up to the implications panic will set in...that's why it's not discussed in the MSM. Google up "Jim Kunstler" or "Matt Simmons" to see what will happen...better still, get a copy of the documentary "The End of Suburbia"...and get ready for nightmares after watching it. It's not wacky "the sky is falling" shit...it's serious shit.
Once one understands what Peak Oil really means a lot of the desperate adventurism we see in the world of late starts to make sense.

8. Thanks for the suggestions. |

Though I hope the scenarios will not be purely speculative in the long run.
