Why Harriet Miers should NOT be confirmed
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-10-05-miers-church_x.htm

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is among a group of congregants of a Dallas evangelical church who recently broke away due to differences over church rules and worship styles.
The group of about 200, led by former Valley View Christian Church pastor Ron Key, formed their own church about a month ago and have been meeting on Sundays at a hotel in Dallas.

Miers has worshipped as a Catholic and attended Episcopalian and Presbyterian services, according to Judge Nathan Hecht of the Texas Supreme Court, who has dated Miers. She has been a congregant at Valley View for some 25 years and in 1979 was baptized by full immersion, consistent with the church's beliefs.

For 26 years, Harriet Miers has belonged to an evangelical North Dallas church that is steadfastly opposed to abortion and gay marriage and takes other conservative positions on controversial social issues.

Should she be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, court historians say, Ms. Miers would be the only justice with an evangelical background.

******

This woman is an evangelical and takes the bible literally. If she is confirmed say goodbye to Roe V. Wade. Our rights as women to control our own reproduction and the right to privacy will be gone. I believe she will take away the rights due to women no matter how 'liberal' her other views MIGHT be.

2. But she's from a "MAINSTREAM" evangelical church in Dallas!
said her crony SCOTEX Justice Nathan Hecht on the Tweety show tonight, much to my relief.

:sarcasm:

3. don't people realize that giving Roberts and Miers seats on the court . .
is, for all intents and purposes, giving those seats directly and permanently to BushCo? . . . for the next quarter century at least, how they vote will be determined by the PNAC "thinkers" (Cheney, Kristol, Wolfowitz, etc.) . . . even if we regain the Congress and the presidency, BushCo will still have the final word on the most important issues . . .

5. Which is why I told people NOT to vote for Bush in 2000 and Nader in 2000
The #1 issue. Bushco's misleading compassionate conservatism facade, #2.

Sigh. Oh, well.
