Seriously Now... Is "Coke-Jaw" A Real Symptom Of Drug Abuse? Or Are We...
... just having a big guffaw over one of Bush's disturbingly odd facial tics?

Are we just playing it up and going along with the gag of calling it "Coke-Jaw" because it sounds funny... and because it's fun to ridicule him (especially in light of his previous boozing and alcohol problems)?

What's the real poop on this? Is there really such a thing as coke-jaw? I've looked on WebMD and could find no listing for it.

10. I agree when people are coked up they clench their jaw and grind
their teeth.

Unfortunately I too lived through the 80's.

I am not sure bushit still does coke, but as to the coke jaw thing it's real.

11. Lookit that jaw go! He must need a drink pretty bad, looks like he can
almost taste the Jim Beam.

But that jaw kinda reminds me of my 90-year-old grandma when her dentures got loose.....

http://www.thegooddrugsguide.com/cocaine/effects.htm

"Physically, your feel 'wired' - clenched jaw, wide-eyed, dilated pupils. Your heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature all rise. If you're in poor shape, be careful. You may also feel strong and sexually aroused. "

7. Several people have called in to AAR claiming it's Cocaine and
others have said it's more likely crank, or freebasing the coke -- I have a loady friend who uses all the types of junk he can get his hands on, so most of his friends (read; Customers) use and he's well aware of the symptom. He thinks it's REALLY funny when straights ask if Bush is on the stuff. Oh Yeah!!

9. Tardive dyskenisia (sp). Too many anti-psychotics.
Combine them with booze and coke, and you've really got a mess on your hands.

13. TD doesn't look all that much like what Bush is doing.
More tongue-thrusting, lip smacking & very transient grimacing. I'm a psychologist & was working in psych hospitals in the 80's when the big demedication push hit. Reducing those old antipsychotics (thioridazine, chlorpromazine, etc.) really unmasked the TD in the chronic cases, so I saw a lot of it.

29. Mental hospital legal services here.
I defer to your judgment, and I do remember the tongue-thrusting and lip smacking. However, there has been a lot posted about Bush constantly licking his lips in addition to the latest stuff.

25. Exactly.
Nothing worse than abusing controlled substances/alcohol while you are taking psychotropic meds. Sends you where no brain has gone before. That's what we have here - a STRANGE combination.

17. I think a lot of DUers will claim to know a little or a lot about it, but

I personally can't say. I snorted quite a bit of coke in the early 80s and I've never experienced it nor noticed it in any of my friends who partook (is that a word?) There may be some sort of physiopathy (is that a word?) in Chimpy's "jaw-jerking" but I really have no clue what it is.

So that is my humble, uneducated assessment. ;-)

edit: fixed a minor typo

it's pretty sad when the closest example you can give of *'s behavior is Bobby Brown. Just think about that for a second. And i'd still prefer Bobby as my president. Can you imagine * trying to say "prerogative"?

24. I yield to the experts on the coke jaw, but it's also disturbing
how often his eyes appear to lose focus; he looks like he goes cross-eyed or one of his eyes wanders here and there.

26. Do People Like Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, Really Admire Him...
or are they just playing a role. Being good little loyal Republicans in public... but privately rolling their eyes and supressing their own groans and laughter at his incompetence?

Aside from our political differences, these people are intelligent folks. How can they NOT realize that Bush is a coked-up moron?

27. Allen, as I've said before, it is also a symptom of some ADD meds.
My friend's son was on Ritalin, Adderall, and Stratera. He had the same "jaw twisting" actions, especially on Adderall and Ritalin...not so bad on Stratera.

I think it's indicative of some prescription stimulant he's taking to control ADD. That's just MHO, but it sure resembles the jaw jerking I've seen with people on ADD meds.
