Costco proves naysayers wrong...profits way up.
Guess those "nattering nabobs of negativism" who worried that "Blue" company Costco was too generous to its employees are eating their words tonight!!!

<snip>

Costco Wholesale Corp. said higher sales of discount items combined with a favorable tax rate helped push its profit up nearly 20 percent in its fourth quarter. Its shares rose more than 5 percent.

1. I'm doing my part to keep their profits up!
I buy all I can at Costco, I only buy what I can't get there at the local grocery store which is really red.

3. Me too. Costco is great.
Unfortunately it's quite a drive from where I live but I can stock up most staples for at least a month at a time when I go.

8. I don't know about the US, but in Canada...
...their prices aren't as great as a few years ago. Just as cheap to shop at a few other regular grocery stores. And at Costco, you still have to pay annually for the "privilege".

Great for the workers, I'm sure they deserve every penny. But Costco, in my experience, hasn't filled the niche it used to fill for a long time now.

If other ex-members start feeling the same way and start voting with their dollars, how long will their profits continue?

I hope they manage to make it work.

There's a Costco going up about 1 1/2 miles from my house and I couldn't be happier!

Note that another business that I personally know treats it's employees very well, Southwest Airlines, is also making oodles of money.

SO THERE, WALMART!

20. I'd pay more at places where I know the employees are treated well.
Costco, however, is a place where you pay less, and you know the employees are treated well.

Incidentally, Costco's mark-up on everything is usually 5% and never more than 10% IIRC.

Unless someone someone elses is selling something as a loss-leader, rarely will you find anywhere selling for less than Costco.

but thank goodness you can use the pharmacy with a membership. My Beagle's meds are very expensive but I get a pretty good break at Costco.
