We are poor, struggling as well. A friend of ours (a young, very butch lesbian) was arrested by a plainclothes cop in Manhattan while on her smoke break at work. Why? Because he saw the silver pocket clip of her knife (which was buried safely in her pocket). She works in a store room and needed the knife to open boxes. Her employer even vouched for her. But the plainclothes officer arrested her and took her to jail.

Then he referred to her as male in all her paperwork (even though she clearly has a woman's name) so that she was lost in the NY penal system. She didn't even get her phone call for 22 hours.

I know that just living, being out, being strong, knowing my history as a queer person, and TEACHING our histories to others... that kills these republican fuckers. It kills them. It kills their cause.

I saw a republican wearing an obnoxious T-shirt at the gym the other day and I wanted to hit him with a blunt object so badly. I wanted his hatred of me and my partner and my friends to have some consequences...but in the end this will do nothing.

One thing you CAN DO is contact the Silvia Rivera Law Center and slap lawsuits on these fuckers. It's run by a transman lawyer who works pro-bono.
