Libby's code cracked (love letter to Miller)
DU'er petgoat made a post that's IMO so important, it deserves a thread of its own.

On 9/15, Libby wrote to Miller : "Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them. Come back to work---and life."

To recap what petgoat found:

9/16-18, there was a "have mores" conference in Aspen, Colorado.

9/22, Robert Novak wrote a column describing how, on that conference, "(*'s) erstwhile friends have turned against (*)."

but since you didn't know the reply, i know you are not my contact.

interesting account of rich Republicans using logic! Maybe all is not lost.

ASPEN, Colo. -- For two full days, George W. Bush was bashed. He was taken to task on his handling of stem cell research, population control, the Iraq war and, especially, Hurricane Katrina. The critics were no left-wing bloggers. They were rich, mainly Republican and presumably Bush voters in the last two presidential elections.

I was surprised that the program indicated the first panel, on stem cell research, consisted solely of scientists hostile to the Bush administration's position. In the absence of any disagreement, I took the floor to suggest there are scientists and bioethicists with dissenting views and that it was not productive to demean opposing views as based on "religious dogma." The response was peeved criticism of my intervention and certainly no support.

I do not see myself as a defender of the Bush presidency, and I am sure the White House does not regard me as such. But as a member of the second panel consisting of journalists, I felt constrained to argue against implications that Hurricane Katrina should cause the president to rediscover race and poverty. My comments again generated more criticism from the audience and obvious exasperation by Charlie Rose. Indeed, after the closing dinner Saturday night, the moderator made clear he was displeased by my conduct.

U.S. News & World Report disclosed this week, with apparent disdain, that presidential adviser Karl Rove took time off from the Katrina relief effort to be at Aspen. He was needed as a counterweight. I settled in for serious fireworks, expecting Bush-bashers to assault his alter ego at the conference's final session. However, direct confrontation with a senior aide must have been more difficult than a remote attack on the president. It would be a shame if Rove returned to Washington without informing George W. Bush how erstwhile friends have turned against him.

Ugh. I read Novak. I need to go take a shower now.

10. Novaks' column might or might not be
an accurate account of the events at the conference.

But the important thing to remember here is that both his column as Libby's letter were part of a coordinated effort to tell something to Miller.

23. What does this mean?

For two full days, George W. Bush was bashed. He was taken to task on his handling of stem cell research, population control, the Iraq war and, especially, Hurricane Katrina.

What population control and where? And what has he handled relating to it? With Libby referring to upcoming biological attacks in his letter to Miller this has me a bit concerned. We didn't get the expected SARS pandemic and now they're hyping the Avian Flu. Is this the next attack to be unleashed by this administration?

27. That reference struck me as odd too
Population control? Nobody (visible) has talked about that in years, and I don't think that's quite the usual term either. It seemed as alien to this gang's agenda and any agenda in the media as civil rights, alleviating poverty, going to Uranus, and ... oh, say, chihuahua breeding standards.

128. Aspen Strategy Group

Judith Miller is a member of something called the "Aspen Strategy Group." This is an organization of policy mavens that meets annually to discuss arms control & national security issues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspen_Strategy_Group

Other members include: Dick Cheney, Condolezza Rice, James Woosley & Paul Wolfowitz.

In August of 2004, the ASG held a "summer workshop" in Aspen, Colorado. The topic: "The Dangers of Proliferation" - focusing on the danger from nuclear & biological weapons. So who was there? According to the website: "The Aspen Strategy Group summer workshop in Aspen, Colorado brought together ASG members, regional experts, and administration officials to discuss the challenge and threat of the proliferation... tackling various aspects of the proliferation challenge including dangerous states such as Iran, North Korea, and Pakistan; the nexus between nuclear and biological weapons..." http://www.aspeninstitute.org/site/c.huLWJeMRKpH/b.6125...

So we know Judith Miller & administration officials were together at a meeting in Aspen, out west, last summer where they discussed Iran's nuclear program & biological weapons. Sounds familiar...

"You went into jail in the summer. It is fall now. You will have stories to cover--Iraqi elections and suicide bombers, biological threats and the Iranian nuclear program."

Here he's reminding her of the meeting, and the topics they covered. Maybe also referring to conversations they had there. He's promising her they are carrying through with the agenda they had set up, and she, too, can still be a part of it!

"Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning."

I think he's tipping her off about "the Aspens," the officials that participated in this conference. He's saying that these people are turning state's evidence, or maybe that some of these people will be indicted. He seems to be warning her that one of these officials is being targeted by the investigation.

in other parts of that letter, where he was telling her about the future columns she was going to write on Iran and Bio weapons, I thought, "Oh my god, she's working for them" (duh) and I wonder how many other "journalists" are.

25. is this the point???
that the Aspen comments indicate that the people in the party are turning against Bush? if that is so, then I would have to assume that Rove is on the Bush side and they're turning against him too.

and the result would be a complete explosion because Rove would not go down without a fight. Or he would keep changing sides, making enemies of both.

I hope this is it.

28. After all, Bush is expendable to the neocons...
...Junior is the just lovable, humble little yap dog who can talk real with the murkin people!

They needed Junior's face and his down-home fakery to appeal to the masses. Most of the neocons are not electable.

Now that the yap dog has become a liability--I bet they are chomping at the bit to get rid of him.

After reading all of this, I would not be surprised if Bush goes down in the Plame scandal. Seriously. They know they will lose the House and Senate in 06, if these indictments come out and Junior is still at the helm--steering the boat into the iceberg.

The neocons accomplished a great deal with Junior. They gained a foothold in Iraq and they're planning to expand into Iran and other countries. All they needed was a likable leader who would make their evil thuggery palatable. Now, he's an anchor around their necks.

I really believe now--that Bush is gone. They'll get rid of him--one way or another.

Also----I heard the other day that Bill Kristol had endorsed McCain for president in the 04 primary. Wasn't Kristol one of the PNAC founders and one of the top signatories on the "letter to Clinton"? I thought that was quite interesting.
