ThinkProgress posts comprehensive analysis of Bush's lies on Oct 7, 2002
Today, as many know, is the 3rd anniversary of Bush's willful deception of the entire Nation - people and Congress - in preparation for launching his preconceived, un-Constitutional and otherwise illegal war of aggression on Iraq.

ThinkProgress has prepared an extensive 'debunking' of that infamous speech:

OCTOBER 7, 2002: CINCINNATI BUNGLES

In the lead-up to war with Iraq, President Bush visited Cincinnati to deliver a major address outlining the reasons for war, just as Congress was considering whether to vote in favor of giving Bush the authorization to attack Iraq. On October 7, 2002, Bush made a number of misleading and exaggerated statements. Since that time, Bush’s credibility both at home and in the world has been greatly undermined.

Bush Suggested Iraq May Have Nuclear Weapons and Was Planning to Attack U.S.

Bush: “Knowing these realities, America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.”

* FACT: Duelfer Report: Saddam Was Not Planning to Restart Nuclear Program. “Saddam Husayn ended the nuclear program in 1991 following the Gulf war. ISG found no evidence to suggest concerted efforts to restart the program. Although Saddam clearly assigned a high value to the nuclear progress and talent that had been developed up to the 1991 war, the program ended and the intellectual capital decayed in the succeeding years.”

When do We The People stop these criminals? When?

1. "Bush Said Saddam Had WMD"
Bush: possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons.”

Bush: “Saddam Hussein is a homicidal dictator who is addicted to weapons of mass destruction.”

Bush: “Iraq could decide on any given day to provide a biological or chemical weapon to a terrorist group or individual terrorists.”

2. "For the first time as a military professional I think we have no way ...
... of winning this."

Why is this a big deal? Because we are actually destroying infrastructure in a country we occupy. We are saying that the military value of the bridges to the insurgancy is greater than the value to us in either a military or economic/social way. This can be compared to the use of chemicals to destroy the jungle in Vietnam. Not because it caused cancer but because it was the long term destruction of some portion of the country.

As a solider I have been involved in this war in one way or another since 1990. I was in Baghdad early on when we actually thought we could rebuild the country. It was a tough decision then to cut down the trees on the airport road then but when you are getting shot at, you have to do something. Now we are blowing up bridges. For the first time I believe we have lost. For the first time as a military professional I think we have no way of winning this. We are willing to destroy the basic structures of the country to deny the enemy their use. This means we have no other way to deny them the use of these assets. We can't stop them, the Iraqi Army can't stop them, the Iraqi police can't stop them and we can't collect enough intelligence to make the enemy pay for using what should be choke points.

There is no way to sugar coat this. This is a MAJOR development. That we have made it public is also a big deal because every other military professional in the world knows we are done. This war may go on for a long time but the conclusion is decided as far as I can see. I never imagined I would see this day.

3. "Iraqi Scientists Reconstituting Nuclear Weapons"
Bush: “The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. Saddam Hussein has held numerous meetings with Iraqi nuclear scientists, a group he calls his ‘nuclear mujahedeen,’ his nuclear holy warriors.”

* FACT: Scientists Were Working On Non-Nuclear Projects. Despite Bush’s allegation that Hussein met often with Iraqi scientists, he “did not disclose that the known work of the scientists was largely benign. Iraq’s three top gas centrifuge experts, for example, ran a copper factory, an operation to extract graphite from oil and a mechanical engineering design center at Rashidiya.”

5. Yes. The ThinkProgress folk are doing very important work for the Republic
Thank you.

I had hoped that at least one person would read and remember October 7, 2002 -- so many people have died, have been harmed, have been tortured, have been deceived by Bush and the neoconsters since that day. More than we will likely ever know.

Peace.

bookmarking, so that we can have this for talking points with our not so liberal friends or acquaintances.

10. Indeed. These are 'ageless' factoids. And, it is our duty as citizens ...
... of the Republic to never allow anyone to forget.

We must never forget what has been done to American and humanity by Bush and his fellow traitorous neconster war criminals.

Never.

Peace.
