C-SPAN 25 YEARS OF CALL-IN PROGRAMMING - fraught w/ freepers & neocons!
This is a special CSPAN group post. Generally the group prepares the next day's schedule the evening before. As this is a marathon, we are doing it two days in advance. The next step is yours.

Select a guest or a topic and start a response thread. Populate it with information about the guest or the topic. Then DU'ers can use the information when sending their thoughts prior to air time via the webform at www.cspan.org, or by calling during the program.

===============================================================

C-SPAN launched television’s first-ever, regularly scheduled national viewer call-in program on October 7, 1980 from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. We’re marking the call-in anniversary with a live, 25-Hour Call-In Marathon starting on Friday, October 7, 2005, at 8 p.m. and continuing through Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 9 p.m. ET.

Every hour, the special program will highlight key events from a year in recent history starting with 1980. Interviews with guests who helped shape or cover the event, archival video and statistics from that year are scheduled. Also, interviews with 25 winners from C-SPAN’s Viewer Call-In Essay Contest will be featured hourly.

1. Lou Cannon is actually pretty good.
Just because his book was a biography of Reagan doesn't mean it was puke-worthy.

But yeah, in general C-SPAN call-ins have been a sewer.

4. Why does Randi have an "opponent"?
I HATE HATE HATE this tactic.. Repubes are allowed the whole time all to themselves, yet a vociferous dem always seems to have a "balancer" who interrupts and eats up time...

10. I've noticed that, too.
They're subtle about it, but there's bias at C-Span. What kills me is that the Heritage Foundation practically lives there. When I first started watching five years ago, I thought they actually owned C-Span.

18. re: Randi Rhodes vs. Janet Parshall?
LOL!

Here's Janet Parshall's reaction to hearing the truth out of a liberal:

"I can't hear you!"

11. Randi up soon
Randi's coming up soon. Too bad she has to share the hour with a right wing counterpart. But then C-SPAN always this type of thing, IMO. They put 50 far right wingers up for every one liberal progressive -- and then they have a right winger on with nearly every liberal.

I've heard that Brian Lamb was once a Rethug staffer - does anyone know if that's true?

BTW -- I like your C-SPAN group. I know you get frustrated with the lack of posting on it. So this kick's for you! Thanks for sticking with it.

14. MsLeopard
Welcome to DU
:hi:

Regarding "frustration"

1. It is not "my" group, 20 of us petitioned and it belongs to DU.
2. Any frustration is with the lack of support for the daily schedule that notadmblnd makes day in and day out. See the pointer every night at

17. Randi was awesome, she decimated Parshall!
Here is a screen capture provided by liveoaktx of what Randi reduced Janet to by the end of the show, it is a classic and a keeper. I have adopted this screen capture as my sig line, it is such a perfect example of how the right wing reacts to truth.

will be on at the 4 to 5 hour. I cannot stomach that woman - she and Judy Miller should share the same cell! 2 peas in a pod!

19. Does Jessica Stern remind anyone else of
Janeene Garafalo? That was a decent segment amid the sea of neocons.

Also, Marilyn Geewax, had a lot of interesting thoughts on deregulation being responsible for the corporate scandals. Capitalism and greed run amok.

20. When CSPAN Mentions the # of Times Conservatives vs Liberals Have Appeared
it's quite astonishing just how lopsided it all is. Randi has been in radio for how long???? How many times has she been on C-span vs that icky wingnut Parshall woman? One time vs 14?
