Miers will remove herself from consideration.
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 03:54 PM by ithinkmyliverhurts
And by "remove herself" I mean she will be asked by the White House to do and say so. She will say she has gotten no pressure from the White House; in fact, she will say the President has asked her not to remove herself. But she is a toady and will do what they ask. She will say she doesn't want to hurt this president and doesn't want to get on the bench in this way. She will decry politics "from both sides of the aisle," and we will hear of her no more.

At least this is what I hear from incredibly well-placed sources. We'll see.

5. The same sources that have predicted other things you can find
on this board.

The White House has gotten the message. But they don't want to look weak. Evidently, she's pissed about it all. She feels like she's been shat on (and she has).

Take it for what it's worth: an anonymous poster on a public board. Again, we'll see.

10. "Remove herself" is simply a way of saying
that the White House is asking her to step aside. They are catching major shit over this one. The administration never wants to admit an error, right? So they don't have to admit one. They ask her to "remove herself," which she is considering, and then publicly they say, "no, please, don't remove yourself." The president doesn't have to look weak and they get her out of the way.

Maybe my friend is getting played by a new narrative. But he's been pretty spot-on in the past.

14. I remember that.
Alas! That last gerund in captivity died a few years ago in a small cage at a children's circus. Sad but true.

Actually, I don't think that I've ever heard anyone ever use the word before. (I know that it's correct -- it's just funny!)

28. And "beshat" is even cooler.
Here's a little party piece my friend John and I do. Never fails to kill (it's better if you imagine the old guy sounding like the Major in Fawlty Towers).

SOME OLD ENGLISH COLONEL ON HIS RETURN FROM BIG-GAME HUNTING IN AFRICA: ...and I was walking through the tall grass accompanied by my gun-bearers, and then I saw him -- the Simba -- under a baobab tree, swatting at flies. One of the bearers trod on a dry twig and it cracked. Suddenly the Simba raised himself up and saw us! My bearers fled. I was alone! With a great roar and with lightning speed, the Simba charged. BWAAGHAHBLAHAHAGAAAAA! Gentlemen, I beshat myself.

ONE OF HIS DINNER COMPANIONS: Well, I think we all would, with a bloody great lion rushing at me and...

OLD ENGLISH COLONEL: No no no! I mean just now, when I said BWAAGHAHABLAHAHAGAAAA!!!

31. She's been hung out to dry by all but Cap'n Codpiece and Andy Card
Isn't anyone out there asking why Cheney and Rove haven't been on the media circuit touting her brilliance as a private practice attorney? Plamegate or no Plamegate, they're nowhere to be found.

Yes, she could be a casualty of the rift between Chimpy W. McBunnypants and Big "Go Cheney Yourself" Time Dick (yes, I believe it to be a fact). And Bush is powerful and petty enough to let sweet little Harriet "High-school Crush on the Kennebunkport Kowboy" Miers twist in the wind because sticking it to the people who he now sees as having RUINED his "presidential legacy" is a higher priority. After all, that sort of behavior fits your Imperial Chimpanzee's narcissistic, sociopathic psuchopathology.

3. I thought this nomination was a ploy all along.
Bush wants political cover to nominate a ScaliaThomas. Once the cons in his party scalp Hariet he'll have to put forth a far-right candidate. Then the political pressure comes to bear on the Democrats who threaten to filibuster. It will be shades of Flordia..."Why are you putting the country thru this"

16. Share your confusion, BUT, with developments with the Grand Jury,
I am now wondering if this nomination is part of a pissing contest between Rove and Cheney.

Rove seems to use ideology as a tool to get what he wants, which always boils down to political survival. At this point in time, Lil Boots needs someone loyal to HIM in the SCOTUS.

Cheney, I think really does have some interest in maintaining at least the appearance of loyality to the cause and probably needs friends in other high places happy with him more than he needs a justice loyal to bush and stars in her eyes to boot.

At first, I thought Harriet was a stalking horse. Now, I think she may be Rove's get-away driver.

22. The admin. is catching real hell for 2 reasons:
1) Conservatives who are a part of the judicial arena really don't know her credentials;
2) Even if they did know them, they want a conservative from an intellectual environment to be put in place. They have not had the Federalist Society building a judicial farm team for the past 20+ years so that when a vacancy arose they would be ignored. No, the Federalist Society was created for THIS very moment.

My hope: she won't "remove her name"--i.e., bend to the pressure--and makes chimpy remove her from consideration. That would be sweet. I don't think he'd do it. I think he'd have someone close dig up dirt on her (which is already underway--BIG TIME!!!!--but coming from other circles) and pass it off as the liberals digging up dirt on her.

23. Pat Robertson certainly had the Fundies primed for an extremist SCOTUS
pick. And I didn't even think of the Federalists... but you're right.

And the "dirt" has begun. Apparently she's actually shaken hands with liberals in the past is not entirely pure.
