I finally figured out what movie we are all living!
Anyone else here seen Pacific Heights? I think we as a country are living it.

Matthew Modine and Melanie Griffith play a couple who buy a really nice house and rent out a room to Michael Keaton. Keaton turns out to be a major asshole who refuses to pay rent, destroys their apartment, and generally terrorizes his live-in landlords. Due to renter protection laws they are unable to get him out, and much mayhem and drama ensues.

It just dawned on me that basically that's what this whole fucking administration has done to us: they are illegally occupying the house that we own, completely trashing it, and terrorizing us, the landlords. And we can't remove him from the house, because the stongest renter's rights laws in the country are those that protect the president as the tenant.

Okay, maybe I'm just talkin' outta my arse, but it sounded good when I thought of it.

Really bad movie, btw - I don't recommend it at all.

Carry on.....

I resent the implication.

I may be hung over today, but I am not :hippie: !

At least not right now.

18. It didn't get near the recognition it deserved.
I thought it was very honest, without being critical, several highly detailed personalities, very unique.

It's Back to the Future Part 2. We're living in Biffworld (Bush world). In the correct (parallel) universe, President Gore is in his 2nd Term, we've enjoyed a time of unprecedented peace and security..

Tell me that movie was not the most prophetic piece of filmmaking of all time.

14. You're closer than you think...
In that movie, Keaton wasn't just "a major asshole", he was a saboteur and swindler who'd targeted Modine and Griffith because they'd overleveraged in buying the house: they needed the rental income from the two apartments to afford their mortgage payments, and they were inexperienced landlords.

So by a deliberate program of not paying his share (read tax cuts, forcing deficit spending) and harrassing the other tenants into leaving (laws favoring maquiladoras and outsourcing), all the while maintaining a "calm and reasonable businessman" facade ("family values", etc.), he drove Modine and Griffith bankrupt so that he (or persons he was working with) could snatch up the property at below market value. The follow-the-rules "good guys" wind up beaten and broke, and the ruthless dirty "bad guys" win the day.

Now, what's wrong with me that I remember that much about a bad movie I saw years ago?

16. Fantastic!
I bet you got an A in your college semiotics class - just like me!

I don't know what's wrong with me that I even came up with this cockamamie metaphor in the first place, or that I actually took the time to post it. Anything to avoid actual work, I guess.

19. That movie drove me nuts
I can't watch high anxiety movies like that and Michael Douglas in "Falling Down".

No wonder I have a constant anxiety attack since 2000.
