3. "bomb-throwers" are rarely invited anywhere
except for comic relief..The ones invited to speak are always the 'sensible/moderate/decent/well-spoken/calm/centrist politicians.

4. Jane's district is very conservative
Much of her area has been very solidly conservative for decades. It is very white, tranplanted Southerners and Midwesterners, and fed heavily with defense money.

It is amazing that they elected a Democrat in the first place.

12. I was one of her volunteers when she ran against Gray Davis

in the Dem primary for governor. I had two opportunities to chat with her for >5 minutes at volunteer rallies. She is, as a previous appender noted, a "sensible/moderate/decent/well-spoken/calm/centrist politician." who is knowledgeable on the issues. (Including defense, national security, intelligence).

A candidate who satisfies all "Progressive Criteria" couldn't get elected anywhere but Haight-Ashbury, the Castro, North Berkeley, and the Oakland Hills. And as we keep supporting and nominating only those "ideal"candidates - we will go from minority status to vestigial status -- even against real Freeper troglodytes like the Brownbacks and the Santorums.

Sometimes it's nice to have Senate and House majorities, and the Presidency (and the Executive branch) and nominate the Judges.

16. Bull SHite
I doubt you even know what district she represents.

The SOuth Bay of Los ANgeles...From the airport to the Harbor. That includes town s like Redondo Beach, El Segundo and Torrance and Gardena and San Pedro and Carson. While it is true that there are many defense contractors HQ's in her districts. Most of the people who work there Do not live in the South Bay.

South Bay has some toney areas on the Beach and certainly up in the Palos Verdes Hills. But even those areas have a progressive heritage. I know this because I lived in Palos Verdes for three years and she was my Congresswoman.

19. Bullshit on you
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 12:19 AM by DBoon

Don't give me that crap - I know her district very well.

I went to high school in Torrance. I grew up there. I know the place well.

Her district has long had a well deserved reputation for being very conservative and very racist.

You know what happened to the one black family that tried to live in Hermosa Beach? The home was condemned for a city park. The South Bay beach cities were brutally white for decades.

Palos Verdes is progressive?? My ass.

San Pedro and Harbor City may have had some of the old blue collar union New Deal Democrats, but the heyday of the ILWU passed long ago.

22. She's my representative and
your are correct. Us Democrats in her area feel lucky to have her because this district was once held by 'B-1 Bob' Dornan and we worked very hard to get her in here. This area is VERY conservative and she is about as liberal and Democrat as is ever going to be accepted here.

Rhodes's point was that she was middle of the road in terms of the political spectrum, not middle of the road of the democratic party.

11. I liked her in the past
seemed smart and informed -- but lately she has strayed to the dark side and Pelosi has demoted her, giving her seat on that committee to someone else. sorry, no link.

Prediction - Harmon will start appearing more on Fox soon.

21. she comes off as having gotten a swollen head from the Intel. Comm.
always big on "bipartisanship" - the crumbs of information she gets must've convinced her that she's a big player now who needs to "play ball."

Always predictable, never interesting to listen to.

76% of her campaign contributions come from weapons contractors. I hand-wrote her a letter about that very subject.

Worst part? My rep USED to be Waxman!

29. Read this
http://www.ronsuskind.com/newsite/articles/archives/000032.html

One section the guy tells how a lot of democrats were formally republicans (moderates) who left when Bush came. They still believe the same policies excpet they just now call themselves democrats. I was talking to my aunt last night about politics a bit and mentioned how now days you just have to vote by canidate and not necessarily by party since people change and lie about their party and all that and she agreed (even though she is a Bush apologist sometimes but she isn't a fundie or freeper thank goodness!).
