Poll: Evangelicals, Republican Women, Southerners Worried About Direction of Nation From Asap

WASHINGTON (AP) - Some of President Bush's biggest supporters in 2004 are jumping ship, according to an AP-Ipsos poll.

Just 28 percent of the 1,000 adults polled think the country is headed in the right direction, while 66 percent say it is on the wrong track. And the latter group includes many of the people who helped Bush eek out a win last November. Over the past year, the president's approval rating is down 30 percentage points with white evangelicals, 28 percentage points with Republican women, and 26 percentage points with Southerners.

"Politically, this is very serious for the president," said James Thurber, a political scientist at American University. "If the base of his party has lost faith, that could spell trouble for his policy agenda and for the party generally."

11. They shouldn't be complaining about anything
We gays still can't marry. Wasn't that their biggest fear?

3.  "If the base of his party has lost faith..."
Funny how that's ALWAYS such a big issue for Republicans, yet when it comes to dems, the conventional wisdom seems to be just the opposite.

Hmmm...

5. How ironic
I'm worried about Evangelicals, Republican Women and Southerners. (I can say I'm worried about Southerners because I am one.)

6. Sorry. It does not matter
He would still win tommorow. There are no more free and fair elections in this country.

It is described quite well in this which was previously discussed in DU:

7. Evangelicals
aren't happy because Bush isn't moving headstrong into the Theocracy they want. Republican Women are getting worried that their Contraceptives and Abortion will be taken away. Southerners are worried about the response/money/allocation given for the Katrina Relief.

Then, of course, EVERYBODY, no matter their religion, gender, geographical location, is worried about gas prices and utility costs.

Something for EVERYBODY to be upset about Bush.

8. eek out a win???
"eek out a win"? My how that tune has changed key. Last November, to hear the MSM and Bush himself, he won by a wide margin. Remember the Tweeties and Potato Heads falling all over themselves to explain how Bush had lots of political capital to spend owing to his comfortable win???

Hahahaha
