Why Are These Men Laughing?
-Ron Suskind
Esquire, January 2003.

***

Eventually, I met with Rove. I arrived at his office a few minutes early, just in time to witness the Rove Treatment, which, like LBJ’s famous browbeating style, is becoming legend but is seldom reported. Rove’s assistant, Susan Ralston, said he’d be just a minute. She’s very nice, witty and polite. Over her shoulder was a small back room where a few young men were toiling away. I squeezed into a chair near the open door to Rove’s modest chamber, my back against his doorframe.

Inside, Rove was talking to an aide about some political stratagem in some state that had gone awry and a political operative who had displeased him. I paid it no mind and reviewed a jotted list of questions I hoped to ask. But after a moment, it was like ignoring a tornado flinging parked cars. "We will fuck him. Do you hear me? We will fuck him. We will ruin him. Like no one has ever fucked him!" As a reporter, you get around—curse words, anger, passionate intensity are not notable events—but the ferocity, the bellicosity, the violent imputations were, well, shocking.

"I want this guy DEAD! I want his family DEAD! I want his house burned to the ground! I was want to go there in the middle of the night and piss on his ashes!" (Robert De Niro as Capone in "The Untouchables")

I don't ever want that mental image. This is what happened in my mind when I read that:

Karl: "We will fuck him! Like he's never been fucked before!"

Me: "Oh! Oh....Oh my god! Oh my god! Get out of my heeeeeeeeead!"

50. They're disunified because
they've finally reached their goal of controlling all of the government. For decades, they've worked toward that goal and they've all put aside their philosophical and political and ideological differences to work together in one united front in order to achieve it.

But now that they have finally reached that goal, the cracks are beginning to not just show but split wide open. They don't feel they need to be unified anymore because they've reached their goal of control of the government, and now the squabbling, infighting, backbiting, and divisions are coming out in full force.

that they'd end up fighting amongst themselves.
Another thing I believe is that if all this decends into
a full-blown second civil war, that war will be started by some
rightwing faction in response to a real, or percieved Republican inability (or unwillingness) to deliver every single item on the rightwingnut list of demands.

there, because there are several repub groups who are furious right now that they're not getting everything they want, everything that's been on their wish list for decades. Little things like establishing theocratic law, destroying public education, etc., etc.

107. I'm not sure I understand
your question. Are you asking if I've ever heard of the evangelicals wanting to establish a theocratic law? If you are, then I'd definitely have to answer in the affirmative. And they seem to have no understanding that this is NOT exclusively a "Christian" nation, this nation is for EVERYONE of ALL faiths or no faith at all. They want everyone to believe the same and they want religious law established.

Atlantic Monthly, Nov 2004 Joshua Green

<snip>

Karl Rove is at his most formidable when running close races, and his skills would be notable even if he used no extreme methods. But he does use them. His campaign history shows his willingness, when challenged, to employ savage tactics

11. Jan 2003....Hmmmm...wasn't this also around the time that...
Rove lied to the FBI about Plame?

Back then, Rove was on top of the world. He was incredibly cocky, corrupt and oblivious to the fact that someday he may have to answer for his crimes.

Listen to how Rove talked--even when a reporter was present. He had no fear.

These third-class thugs were so damn sure of themselves. Bush was quoted as saying that the Plame leaker would never be found.

Oh realllllly, sir? It was as if Bush was dictating that their crimes would never be revealed and that they would never be held accountable.

They thought they had it all sealed up, after 9/11. They thought they could sell bottled water to a drowning man, because they had duped the entire country and were constantly getting their way.

With absolute power, they became absolutely corrupt--and even more careless.

I'm not surprised that Rove would talk and behave like such a rabid, out-of-control, self-aggrandizing zealot. I'm also not surprised that this same attitude is what will ultimately bring him down in the end.

Thinking that you're "all that" often leads to being oblivious.

And Bush's statement proved that he was involved or at least knew about what was going on and didn't do anything to stop it. Maybe that is why Bush has been looking like shit lately. Funny how nobody talked about Rove. I wonder why. And funny how he's supposed to be this great husband and father but yet you never see them at political events. Were they even at the RNC last year?

33. Reading this article really makes me worry
about what Karl Rove might be thinking about doing behind the scenes to try and avoid the indictment. :tinfoilhat:

And what will happen if he is indicted? The pervasive influence of Rove:
But I’ve never heard another story like this one, because people in Washington, especially Rove’s friends, are utterly petrified to talk about him.

They heard that I was writing about Karl Rove, seeking to contextualize his role as a senior adviser in the Bush White House, and they began calling, some anonymously, some not, saying that they wanted to help and leaving phone numbers. The calls from members of the White House staff were solemn, serious. Their concern was not only about politics, they said, not simply about Karl pulling the president further to the right. It went deeper; it was about this administration’s ability to focus on the substance of governing—issues like the economy and social security and education and health care—as opposed to its clear political acumen, its ability to win and enhance power. And so it seemed that each time I made an inquiry about Karl Rove, I received in return a top-to-bottom critique of the White House’s basic functions, so profound is Rove’s influence.

And this:
It’s an amazing moment," said one senior White House official early on the morning after. "Karl just went from prime minister to king. Amazing . . . and a little scary. Now no one will speak candidly about him or take him on or contradict him. Pure power, no real accountability. It’s just ‘listen to Karl and everything will work out.’. . . That may go for the president, too."

36. Jeez! Nobody's really running the country, are they?
I guess I knew that, but this makes it chillingly clear:

"I heard many, many staff discussions but not three meaningful, substantive policy discussions," he writes. "There were no actual policy white papers on domestic issues. There were, truth be told, only a couple of people in the West Wing who worried at all about policy substance and analysis, and they were even more overworked than the stereotypical nonstop, twenty-hour-a-day White House staff. Every modern presidency moves on the fly, but on social policy and related issues, the lack of even basic policy knowledge, and the only casual interest in knowing more, was somewhat breathtaking: discussions by fairly senior people who meant Medicaid but were talking Medicare; near-instant shifts from discussing any actual policy pros and cons to discussing political communications, media strategy, et cetera. Even quite junior staff would sometimes hear quite senior staff pooh-pooh any need to dig deeper for pertinent information on a given issue."

The Bush Admin. is replete with viscious Sociopaths, right from the top Silverspoon Sociopath. The various Mobs in this country are second rate in comparison to the killing that has been done by the Bush Crime Org.

Martin Bormann's body was found in 1972 near a train station in Berlin. He took cyanide to kill himself. The remains were verified as his in 1999. I think with traces of a cyanide glass capsule present in the teeth.

91. KKKarl is a cyanide baby?
Was KKKarl's ma on some kind of drugs too? Was Ma Rover ever on a 'full blown holiday in Berlin'? Did she tamper, trollop, or trifle, with a sexually aroused gas mask, or an industrial strength vacuum cleaner?

Martin Bormann was a lot like Karl, in that, he controlled every move Hitler made in public and even controlled everyone who saw Hitler, or spoke with him. I'm guessing Hitler, was every bit as nutty as W and needed a constant babysitter too.

I firmly believe that the Oval Office is now the play pen and that Karl is the live-in nanny. I don't think Cheney's heart is in any condition to run after the pResibrat, so Karl is always there to wash off W's play-toys and to wipe up after him. KKKaren is big, butt, is she big enough to fill KKKarl's shoes, should a jury of his peers decide to pluck him from the national picture. Who will fetch Shrub's bottles and atomic teddy bears, if he cries out in the night?

BTW, if Karl hadn't been around, Bush might have nominated Rush Dungball or dAnn Coldt*ts for the vacancy on the US Supreme Court.

Karl is enormously powerful, maybe the single most powerful person in the modern, post-Hoover era ever to occupy a political-adviser post near the Oval Office.

http://jgkojak.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/22/1415/5817

According to Mr. Suskind, "The aide said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.' " The aide told Mr. Suskind, "That's not the way the world really works anymore. We're an empire now, and when we act we create our own reality."

will be sweet for Rove's victims. I'll bet you that most of the people he has come in contact with will very much enjoy helping to do him in. Many of the more moderate republican congresspeople and senators would love to get the RoveBush Mafia off their backs. They'll help bring them down, when and if they feel safe enough. I'll bet you that most of the more moderate republicans hate RoveBush as much or more than we do. It would not be at all surprising if, behind the scenes, they are helping to bring them down.
