Ann Coulter on Bill Mahr
http://www.crooksandliars.com/

I watched this clip - and I have issues will Bill Mahr not rebutting:

-Coulter saying that Democrats said that black people were too stupid to read the butterfly ballot? (I believe that the population of Palm Beach County is mostly elderly and white)

-Coulter saying that Freakonomics states that there is a tie between black people and crime (I believe the tie in the book is between poverty and crime)

letting this stuff get by is the same as validating it as the truth. These accusations were so outrageous - are these the new talking points?

Anyone else think that Mahr lost?

2. The problem is, she piles the lies on so fast that rebutting all of them
would take a lot more time than she was allotted. I thought he should have called her on the things you mentioned, AND her identification of the Freakonomics authors as racist liberals, AND at least a dozen other things. But you know, she didn't even seem to be trying to sound sincere.

3. I don't think there's ANY sincerity to her, just a carnival act to make
as many outrageous and hatefilled statements as possible and see which ones stick, to generate publicity, book sales, and TV appearances.

For money.

Works great for her so far. I think Savage is the same way.

6. no, she is a tool for the conservative movement
She says things that are so outrageous & radical that when some RW politician comes along and is slightly less outrageous, the RW politician now appears to be a moderate, as in "at least he/she is not out there like Coulter!"

that is how they have moved the debate further & further to the right.

My example I've used 100 times on DU is that in 1964, Barry Goldwater was considered so far to the right that he was way out of the mainstream as to be unelectable, and he lost in an historic landslide.

However, the debate has moved so far to the right that Goldwater's pro-choice, pro-environment and pro gays in the military stands would make him a liberal Republican these days. Yet, his fellow Arizonan John McCain, who is anti-choice and against gays in the military is now a moderate Republican.

(Also, his name is spelled Maher. ;) )

9. I also had problems with what Ben Affleck got away with saying....
Affleck's comment about Bill Clinton's "wag the dog" moment when he "went on a bombing campaign" was ridiculous. Affleck aparently doesn't remember that Clinton was going after Osama Bin Laden during that "wag the dog" moment.

10. In all fairness. He's Ben Affleck, not a political genius. :D
I was amazed he sounded as intelligent as he did, really.

14. Yeah and he cut off Rushdie more than once.. Annoyed the hell out of me
Here you have a literary figure, with acutal intelligent things he wanted to say, and we get Ben Affleck cutting him off, and making remarks about Rushdie being a "comedian"....

He annoyed me greatly. I agree with him on many things, but he should stick to movies.

13. She's a comedienne
and a mean one. She hasn't earned "pundit" status, which in itself is just one up on professional pooper scooper

16. I had big trouble with.....
AC's comments about how the Liberals referred to Blacks, especially with the butterfly ballot in FL! That was outrageous and I think Bill needed to stop it. They both like to hear themselves talk and this was not a private conversation this was on national TV...no excuse to let another RWinger espouse lies. We know how saying lies repeatedly, e.g. WMD's in Iraq and connection of Osama and Hussein and 911 with Iraq, ad infinitum--soon become "facts"! Over-all I thought Ann was especially desperate last night--love to see her squirm and her eyes dart all over the set! :smoke:

18. Just remember his first "Real Time" ...
AC said something really stupid and Bill just looked at her with a sneer and say "You just make this shit up, don't you?".

He's used to the rants, so I think he just lets her spew and he gets her when he can.

21. as I recall he did call her on the /poverty/crime thing
and she said something like what kind of idiot believes that poverty and crime are connected, and then gave a big clueless look. Maher scoffed at her disingenuoousness.

Maher was less than satisfactory in his replies. But he did manage to communicate that Coulter is not a reliable source.

so why have her on?
