Harriet Miers a lesbian?

There was a great call on Sunday Salon which co-related the Republican Spin machine that called Governor Ann Richards a lesbian as she was not married and went around her job in that way.

The only time I'd have any such interest is if I had a "personal stake" in the information. Since I (personally) don't regard her as even being in the neighborhood (or hemisphere) of 'attractive,' I have no "personal stake" whatsoever.

:evilgrin: As a person who's nearly obsessive about vigorously applying soap and water to his face and hands (and other anatomical surfaces, of course), I'm often repelled by those whose constant application of a variety of (costly) dirts and soils is so apparent.

People do not marry for many reasons, for instance, because they do not want to have children out of fear of transmitting what they believe to be a serious congenital condition such as a predisposition to mental illness to a child. There are other explanations for Miers' not marrying. Most likely, she really is married to the law. There is an old saying that "the law is a jealous mistress." I know quite a few lawyers who do not marry until it is practically too late to have children. A career in litigation means unbelievably long, long, long hours and enormous stress. It is tough on the significant other who can't believe you are really working all night long.

Other possible explanations for Miers' bachelorhood: Miers and Hecht are asexual (unlikely). Hecht is gay, and she loves him. She had other relationships that didn't work out and are not being discussed and Hecht was the cover. (Could there have been a married man in her past? Not uncommon, and few would know). Miers (or Hecht) could be very close to her (his) mother or parents and unable to break loose to marry. Other possibilities:

Miers' religious upbringing or some early experience turned her off to sex.

Miers was afraid of having children.

Miers has a very aggressive personality that gets tiring after a while and turns men (especially southern gentlemen from Texas) off.

Miers is intimidatingly intelligent and men were scared she would outshine them.

The possibilities are endless. In the end, it's her business isn't it. I know why I did marry, and that's my business and no one else's. Hey! We are Democrats. Unless Miers puts this issue out there herself (which could be argued because she seems to be pushing the Hecht relationship ad nauseum), she has a right to privacy about her sex life.

Seriously, though, I really don't care what she does in her private life other than wondering how it slants her views on things. And, of course, how the RR try to spin things.
