Oh Fucking Gawd My Son Ben Has Been Badly Wounded.

Ben and the troops with him came under an attack last night. They were on a sniper re-con mission when an IED exploded. Two of the six in Ben's unit were badly hurt. They took them off to safe cover. Ben was also wounded but able to fight.

For two hours and 45 minutes they battled the Iraqi forces. It was a living hell according to Ben. He was airlifted to Baghdad when the fighting stopped. He has had two surgeries in the last 15 hours. None of the Marines were killed. The two badly hurt along with Ben are being flown to Germany as I type this.

And I am not even sure if I am here. My son has just gone through some shit mind fucking shit and my world just seems like nothingness. I am floating in a sea of madness and tears.

I will post again when I have some new information.

For now all I know is Ben has been badly wounded and he is going to Germany.

Oh My Fucking GAWD. He has been in that shit hole for three weeks and this is what happened. I am so worn out I am going to bed.

My heart is so beyond broken it is shattered. :cry:

t is 7AM in the morning here. I have been awake and reading my initial Ben post and crying hard for the past hour. Thanks and love to each and every beautiful soul that sent prayers and hope.

For those who offered monetary assistance Ray and I do not need any financial help to get to Germany. We are in Italy and have plenty of resources. But the offers are wonderful and we are very touched.

My prayers for recovery, but I know it's so much more.

My son was in a car crash, everyone was fine although the car was totaled. When I heard about it my heart ached for those moments of terror when they went spinning on the highway after being hit, air bags blocking their view. I hated that they had that fear...and they were fine.

So...imagining the pain you must be feeling for the HOURS of horror, explosions, of hell, bullets, of war that Ben and the others went through, my heart just goes out to you. A billion times what I felt and what I felt was hard.

Then knowing he is hurt and not the details...and knowing what a stupid war this is on the orders of an idiot. I can see why you are spinning and feeling unreal.

We do know our medical teams are great there and I hope he's home healing soon.
But I am so sorry, sorry for them all and all the families.

Call the Family Support Center or the NAVHOSP at Sig and see if there is a way they can put you on the MEDEVAC flight that goes up to Ramstein so that you can be with him. Are you in touch with Casualty Assistance at the base? If not, call and ask that they assign you some liaison support--talk to the CDO (Quarterdeck phone [phone]) if after hours, and tell him or her that you want the CO briefed, because you will, as the mom of a wounded Marine, need help and support from NASSIG. The CO's name is Captain Joseph Stuyvesant, the XO is Captain Dale E. Carson. The CO used to work at the National Military Command Center, he will have experience with this kind of thing and may take a personal interest.

You might also get help from the NASSIG chaplain's office--I have no idea who the chap is there, but the number is 095-86-9049. He or she can call Germany and get someone from the office up there to check on Ben for you.

I realize you must be going out of your head right now, but keep two things in mind: HE IS ALIVE, and odds are HE WON'T BE GOING BACK ANYTIME SOON.

If he was near the explosion then the two surgeries may likely be the removal of shrapnel to stem bleeding.

As bad as it is he's in the hands of some really solid folks, his pals got him out of there, another plus.

He'll never be the same even if he came home completely unscathed physically, there's moral trauma involved and he'll need to talk through this with you so he NEEDS YOU to be STRONG, it's tough at a time like this but YOU are such a powerful person, with the truth of your conviction and always have been.

Lot of positives in what you posted, most scary of all is Not Knowing, at least you have Some info, and did talk to him.

He's going to be fine I think, scarred from battle, but those scars may go on with him to tell others about the bullshit that war is, so that he can tour with someone like Conyers and tell the TRUTH and save other lives.

Sounds like HE saved some lives by continuing to Fight as well. He's a Hero. A Real Hero. And he'll most probably come home.

...my niece, who was raised almost like a sister to me, was in iraq for 7 months late last year and earlier this year. although i knew, i was the only family member who knew...she never told her mother. for the entire time, i was getting e-mails from her describing the effects of IED's and ambush's she went through(she is a logistics specialist and was driving supplies from kuwait to bahgdad...she said there was never a run without some incident). i had the weight of telling her mother any news about her as i was the one she directed the army to tell. now she is home, here in daytona, working as a recruiter for the next two years, but, in her place, her brother, a reservist and a Houston firefighter, is now in germany waiting to go over. he is a medic, in the "green zone", and wont be in any direct line of fire, but one never knows how this war will go. i fear greatly for my family...i can not fathom how you must feel, only offer my sympathies and prayers to you and your's. good luck to both you and your son. my heart goes out to the both of you......rppper and family.....

I saw a kid in uniform today at a resturant and I had to give him a note because I couldn't say anything except "Are you going to Iraq? I hope you come home safe," to him w/o tearing up. I looked at his proud dad with him (obviously military as well) and just prayed he wouldn't have to face what you are facing.

I couldn't force myself to walk up to Cindy Sheehan when I was in DC for the Peace March because my son is still alive. He tried to join the Army a few times but there were various problems and he didn't get in. I kinda gave God an ultimatim about it. I said, "OK God, you can take him for this war, but if he comes home in a box, you are going to have some 'splain' to do."

I have Lila Liscomb's picture in my den on my desk. I keep meaning to write to her, but just the thought of how much love she gave even to those who didn't understand her reasons for being in DC during Michael Moore's film makes me feel so small and insignificant because my son lives.

My dad was Army and I believe in the sincere dedication to our country that most of these soldiers have in putting themselves on the line for us even though I know we are in a wrong headed war at the behest of an unthinking, unfeeling administration.

My heart goes out to you. My prayers for your son's recovery. I share your greif because but for God's grace I could be in your shoes, worrying, raging, crying until my heart breaks. Maybe his injuries will only be severe enough to keep him home until those of US Waging Peace can pull the plug on this insanity and bring them all home.
