New Seasons takes another jab at Savage
By: SU-JIN YIM

<SNIP> The chief executive officer of New Seasons Market has pulled Rockstar from all New Seasons stores because the drink's company is associated with controversial conservative commentator Michael Savage.

"It's just a personal issue for me," Rohter said. "Michael Savage is on the air day after day doing his best to take apart the fabric of our society and to attack American values, and we just refuse to support him in any way at all. I'm the CEO of the company, and every once in a while I get to make a personal decision."

Michael Savage's son, Russell Weiner, founded the Las Vegas-based energy-drink company. Rockstar did not return phone calls Friday. Savage was fired from MSNBC in 2003 after telling a caller he thought was gay to "get AIDS and die."

Rohter said he does not know if any customers have complained since he made his decision about two weeks ago, after finding out about Savage's connection to the company. New Seasons has six stores in the Portland area, with more on the way.

If I didn't have to drive an hour, I'd shop there all the time!

1. "New Seasons takes another
jab at Savage"? Somebody needs to take huge JABS at the mofu.

Thank you, Brian Rohter! It would be great if all Progressives banned that drink that the offspring of that national fuckup, savage, created.

4. Hmm, next time I'm shopping for energy drinks
Rock Star! (And I do use them on long car trips.)

Good on the CEO for putting prinicple before profit.

8. You should try Hansen's Energy drink...
As far as I can tell, they don't have any family ties to Reich-wing hate speakers or bloated corporations who fuel Republican campaigns (ala SOBE being owned by Pepsi Co.).

9. I don't know...
I didn't see it listed at BuyBlue.org... you should look at their web page and see what company owns it.

'Cause now I don't have to quit. I will spread the news though.
I'm in Washington state, I wonder if New Seasons is planning on expanding? Hmm

Edit: They have a message board on their website. I just sent a thank you note, and told them they have my business when I am in Oregon.

12. This is a ridiculous boycott based on a tenuous connection.
The only connection they have to Michael Savage is that Michael Savage's son, not the man himself, started the company.

15. Yes... it is wrong to unfairly associate a product....
with a tenuous family tie. Kind of like how Michael Savage used to associate Heinz Ketchup with Theresa Heinz Kerry - even though her last name clearly has "Heinz" in it (for those who don't know, he used to call her "Theresa Heinz-Ketchup" in the run-up to the 2004 election). I'm sure his snarky emphasis on this name association never led any of his regular listeners to boycott Heinz products.
