Is it possible that Miers became an Evangelical Christian just |

to keep in Bush's good graces because he was her most important client?
In the business I work in, I work with a lot of Catholics in New Mexico and Mormons in Utah and I will admit that wherever I am at, they think I have the same religion as they do. It's extremely risky not to do as the Romans do in this business.
I was just thinking that many people who were in Miers position and had perhaps the most powerful family in United States as their client, might be apt to say and do just about anything to keep that account.
Once on the High Court Miers my become much more independent and do a 180 degree turn from Bush. She may become the person who gave money to Al Gore's campaign years back?
Perhaps she has Bush hoodwinked? Just a thought?

7. I am reminded of how Bush misread President Putin early on |
|
I just think back on how Bush was so sure he had Putin pegged yet all the while Putin had the wool pulled over Bush's eyes right from the start. I don't think Bush is good at reading people. Bush is a lightweight on every level.
Then again, perhaps Miers will be worse than we think. We can always hope because it looks like we are going to be stuck with her.

Let's pray or wish whatever is most comfortable for you that she'll pull a Sandra O'Conner on him.

She's as shallow and soulless a person as I've ever heard of--who knows *what* she'll do when there's nobody to suck up to in order to get a promotion.

5. I'd go farther than that. |
|
Bush himself "became a Christian" for political reasons. She thinks he's a brilliant man.
Why shouldn't she do the same?

6. Her church preaches marriage or celibacy, I think she converted |
|
when she got tired of dealing with sexual issues as a single woman. Then she could just play the "marry me or forget it" card.

10. Where did you get this idea? |
|
She was raised Catholic. Why would she need to go evangelical to deal with sexual issues?
Maybe you could explain your train of thought a bit more.

18. If she was raised Catholic, doesn't her conversion to some full- |
|
immersion fundamentalist sect place her in serious conflict with Catholics? None of this religous stuff makes any sense to me. Wouldn't Catholics view her as some sort of a turncoat who shouldn't be on the Supreme Court? Didn't she go to Southern Methodist? How Catholic is that? Frankly, I find women with no discernable sex life spooky and unnatural. Of course I also find people who thing that some invisible being rules their lives spooky too.

14. Oh, it could be something stupid, like she had sex with someone |

or another. Or she had an abortion. Or she liked mescaline in the 70s.
Oh, my mind is racing with silliness now.

11. Even if she did it just for Bush, it doesn't mean it didn't take. |
|
Whatever her reasons for changing, she may have actually converted. She may be a complete and total adherent to Bush and truly believed that if it would please or imitate him, it was for the best.
If so, then simply leaving his employ wouldn't change a thing. She would still be guided by WWGeorgeD.
I wouldn't bet on their being a "real" Harry somewhere that Bush doesn't know after so many years.

13. Her church is a very politically connected church. She's very ambitious. |
|
Draw your own conclusions (I think it's an open question but -- on balance -- I am not inclined to question her faith).
Also, even if she were a full on anti-choice Christian, that does not necessarily mean she believes the governemnt should impose that belief on everyone. I know many people who would never chose abortion personally but who would fight for the right to choose. Some of Harriet Miers's personal and political allies hold this view so, perhaps, Miers might hold the view as well.
We can discuss this further if you want; just PM me.

15. I think as Randi Rhodes pointed out, they really don't want to over turn |
|
Row vs Wade. It's the wedge issue that brings people to the polls and once overturned it would set the Democratic base and the womans vote on fire. I don't think they want to go their.
Ending abortion is like the fake bone people throw to their dog. The dog runs out their and can't find the bone. They want to have the power to keep faking throwing bones to the base. And the base is stupid enough to keep chasing the bone that was never thrown in the first place.

17. You can't be right. Just look at all the anti-choice laws Bush has passed |
|
with the aid of a Republican-controlled House of Representatives, a Republican-controlled Senate, and a predominantly Republican judicial branch of government.
Oh, wait . . . nevermind.

|
so I'd say, no. Someone who was just kiss-assing wouldn't devote their time the way she does. She's certainly not just going through the motions. She had some bullshit "born again experience" and has committed her life to all things theocracy.
