Freep waxing philosophical re: Rove/Scooter & Plame
who knew?

In response to article re: Bill Kristol saying indictments coming ...

If there were an indictment of Scooter Libby, I don't think that would hurt much. Rove would be more problematic. Although there is some advantage to having all the bad news piled on at once -- it's like flooding New Orleans the 2nd time, nobody really cares all that much because it just damaging already destroyed goods.

6. agreed ...
... it's .. uhm ... everywhere!

the entire set of posts on this (in freerepublic) is VERY enlightening, once again.

snippets

If Bush and/or Cheney are indicted, it's time to take the gloves off. Investigate ALL RAT political figures. This is a coup attempt using the legal system, and it has to be fought tooth and nail.

3. This idiot may be right. No one will care. If Abu Gar pics didn't rattle
the public, why will treason upset anyone?

7. You're assuming Abu Ghraib didn't bother people
I think it is a contributing factor in the steadily declining popularity of the war. Where was war support before Abu Ghraib?

I'm a little tired of all this "We're so knowledgable, but the 'sheeple' don't care" bullshit that permeates DU. Guess what: DUers aren't always the smartest or most well-informed people on the planet. Just because people don't wear their outrage on their sleeves doesn't mean they're not paying attention. And maybe a lot of those who aren't paying attention are hacking the contemporary in their own way. Maybe we should cut the elitist bullshit lurking behind the "sheeple" charge. We're no better than most.

11. I hope you're right, but
in the run up to the last election I did a lot of informal political outreach among my coworkers, and I was astounded by the number of people who are just completely wrapped up in their daily lives and don't know ANYTHING about their country's political system. I had people ask me who was running for President -- and this was, like, a month out from the elections.

I'll bet you a thousand dollars that you could go up to 10 people on the street and ask them who are their Senators, their Representative, their State Senator, their State Representative, and their City Councillor -- and NOBODY would be able to name all of them. Nobody.

12. a bit off topic but ...
(i.e., off topic of main article) but I agree with you re:

...tired of all this "We're so knowledgable, but the 'sheeple' don't care" bullshit that permeates ...

It's a "funny" thing in that it permeates EVERY forum I've ever visited. But, however niave (and this may say that I'm as "bad" as the rest) ... I always hope for more here.

I also think that you can't look at the current poll numbers and say that people don't care at all about what's going on. One can argue that it took "forever" for some to wake up, or that there are still too many people who continue to "drink the koolaid" .... or whatever.

But people are, at some level, paying attention, and many are, at some level, dismayed. We can rant that the glass is "half full" - or we can build, constructively, on the growing awareness.

just my humble opinion

13. I don't think it's elitism. It's more like despair.
I've had too many conversations with well educated people, nice people, who have rationalized Abu Ghraib in their own minds. According to them, things really weren't so bad at these places, and if the interrogations did get out of hand once in a blue moon, well, they shouldn't have attacked us on 9/11. I did tell one of these folks about the 90-9 vote against torture last week in the senate, and I think it might be beginning to penetrate that maybe things WERE that bad if Republican senators thought so, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

8. Subtle admission there how crucial Rove is to the Bush WH.
Shouldn't that bother them more? None of them voted for Rove, after all.
