Is there any such animal? Gay AND Conservative?
Help!

I was on a sports forum that I go to, and some rightwing wacko (who was discussing a sports team) responded to someone with ....."the idiot must be a liberal because there's no such thing as a gay conservative!"

I'm not part of that conversation (yet ;) ), but I'm so sick to death of this guy bashing liberals that....

...you guessed it.. I'd LOVE more than ANYTHING to whip out a name of someone who actually is considered to be a gay conservative.

Is it a losing cause? :o Is "gay conservative" an oxymoron, or is there a name I can zap the idiot with that might shut his trap up? }(

Thanks for any help! :)

1. The Log Cabin Republicans are a group of gay conservatives.
However, I think they're just a bunch of self-hating wackos.

16. I know some of them;
they made some money during the Clinton years and thought they were rich enough to be repubs...but they still hang on...to my experience 10% of the population is gay and fall that way across the board on every issue.

17. The LCR tend to be socially liberal, however.
Fiscally conservative, but socially liberal.

They favor gay marriage, for instance. But they are all for big tax cuts for the rich.

there is always David Catania the openly (and self-described "flamboyantly") gay city councilman and former chair of the District of Columbia GOP.

34. I think that those are important and telling poll numbers
One of the biggest fallacies being perpetrated upon us is that the republicans are dominated by fundies, when in fact they are but only a portion of their party.

I want to pull my hair out when it is suggested that the people that we want to win over to vote Dem are those ultra social conservatives who believe that religion should play a role in government. I say hogwash. It is the voters who believe that they are voting for fiscal responsibility when they vote repub that we need to appeal to. Not by changing our domestic policies to look like repubs, but to show those voters how Democratic policies are better for our economy and their own wallets.

25. Possibly the "Pink Pistols"
http://www.pinkpistols.org

I'm not 100% certain.

On the flip side, there are liberals who refuse to believe that they are conservative blacks: Alan Keyes, Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell...

Race or sexual orientation is not always a priority if that person believes that their interests are better served WRT to other conflicting issues.

29. the infamous Roy Cohn, henchman for Sen. Joseph McCarthy
Conservative right-winger, even though he was a Democrat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Cohn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Roy Marcus Cohn (February 20, 1927 – August 2, 1986) was an American lawyer who came to prominence during the investigations by Senator Joseph McCarthy into Communism in the government and especially during the Army-McCarthy Hearings. While widely unpopular during his lifetime, he nonetheless wielded tremendous political power at times. Cohn, a member of the Democratic Party, was known to be relentlessly homophobic, and fought against human and civil rights for most of his career. This continued even after he was outed as a homosexual. He died of AIDS in 1986.

Tried to convince me that abortion was murder and that he would pay me $3000 to keep the baby (I was 20). Called me a murderer when I did it. Loved Ann Raynd (sp?). Showed me his voting card-R. Boasted about his daddies.
They so do exist.

40. Yes. George Bush has a large gay following in Texas
Even some of the Pioneers are gay men who live and work in the Houston area. There are a number of persons in the Bush administration who are gay, but I'm not in the business of outing anyone. That is their choice, but you wouldn't have to research much to figure it out.
