Miers contributed to Hillary's Senate Campaign in 2000 |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 08:05 PM by WI_DEM
Her lawfirm contributed to a pac supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senatorial campaign in 2000, after Harriet herself contributed $415. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=46743This story is also on Kos. www.dailykos.com This will further incite the right wing in the republican party. Anything which will split the GOP is OK with me.

1. Hillary to the radical right is like * to us |
|
she inspires sheer hatred on their parts, maybe even more so than us towards Bush.

12. Why not give to a Republican candidate then? |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 08:34 PM by NewJeffCT
I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of Republican women in Congress that could have used a donation? Kay Bailey Hutchinson for one, right in her own backyard...
If she is a managing partner in the firm, I doubt any donation would be made if she disapproved of where it went.

15. not sure if you caught my edit or not |

But, if she is a managing partner in the firm, I doubt they would be making donations to anybody or anything if she disapproved of the cause...

18. No I doubt she would either. I don't give to PACs for my medical specialty |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 08:42 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
because they generally support Repub candidates. This is true of medical PACs as a general rule. That's why I contribute to individual candidates.
You ask "why wouldn't she give to (local Repubs)" and I responded that she DID in fact give quite a bit.

21. Bottom line she gave 415 to this PAC but also gave multiple 1K donations |
|
to W, Kay Bailey, etc.
I don't doubt that she knew the 415 would go to Hilary and the other Dems though.

16. I was assuming she was in the minority, party-wise |
|
and that the consensus was to send money to the Dem. But she could have begged off. Still, it might have been a career thing. But then, if she's so steadfast in her opinions, why would she bow to the wishes of her co-workers.
Hmmm. And of course, Hillary IS the devil.

I doubt if she strongly disapproved of giving to Hillary the firm would have donated to her...

Really. I suspect there are circumstances like that, but it does sound disturbing.
I remember be asked by a boss once and I told him I objected to the "adminstrative costs" associated with United Way. It wasn't a big deal, but I assume your circumstances might be different.

23. I never felt the squeeze. But I'd heard that managers |
|
tended to look more favorably on those at one of the companies I worked for if they donated to the United Way.

5. She gave to a PAC, and the PAC gave to Hillary |
|
Or at least that's what it sounds like to me.
Doesn't get me excited, but if it further disillusions the freeps, that's fine with me.

9. More from Jerome Corsi's full story on this, at |
|
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=46744 : <snip>
FEC records also show a $500 contribution on Feb. 15, 2000, by the Locke Liddell PAC to Democrat Nicholas Lampson, who ran unsuccessfully against Tom DeLay.
<snip>
Locke Liddell's PAC contributed to the re-election campaign of Houston Democratic Congressman Kenneth Edward Bentsen Jr., nephew of Congressman Lloyd Bentsen. The law firm also supported the congressional campaigns of Texas Democrats Lloyd Doggett, Chet Edwards, Martin Frost, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Max Sandlin. In 2000, three separate contributions were made to the campaign of Texas Democrat Regina Montoya Coggins, who ran unsuccessfully against Congressman Pete Sessions – the records also reflect two contributions to Pete Sessions in 2000.
Of the 24 candidates supported by Locke Liddell's PAC in the years 1999-2000, a majority of 14 were to Democrats. These were years in which Harriet Miers was co-managing partner of the law firm.
Harriet Miers has already indicated that she switched from Democrat to Republican, suggesting she voted for Ronald Reagan, despite making campaign contributions to Al Gore and Bill Clinton in the 1990s. Until now, there had been no discussion that Harriet Miers' campaign contributions had also ended up supporting Hillary Clinton, as well as opposing the re-elections of Majority Leader Tom Delay and Republican Texas Congressman Pete Sessions.
