My Sorrow....And Joy....For The Earthquake Survivors
My deepest sympathies go out to the people of Central Asia for the horrible earthquake that has killed so many, and displaced many more. What a horrible nightmare. However, I must say that I am so glad that their governments are sending immediate aide unlike the government of the victims Katrina.

I feel deep sorrow for the victims of the Central Asian earthquake, although I am deeply grateful that they are not being treated as criminals for collecting food & water (as anyone in such a natural disaster would do), unlike the victims of Katrina.

I feel deep sorrow for the victims of the Central Asian earthquake but I am deeply grateful that their government did not treat the region as a war zone that they must secure before they sent in relief (food, water), unlike the victims of Katrina.

I am deeply saddened for the people of Central Asia, I wish I could end their suffering. But my heart is still on the floor for the victims of Katrina. Not completely for what has already been committed against them. Not completely for the unforeseeable pain that they have yet to endure in putting their lives back together. But also for the foreshadowing of what is to come for the rest of us.

I am not the same as I was before Katrina.

1. thank you so much for your wonderful letter. none of us are the same. I
keep hearing the words of three of the evacuees who told a friend of mine, who works here for one of the relief agencies, "We thought we had been abandoned in hell." I will never forget that.

3. I'm sitting here in Oregon not knowing a soul in the region
other than the DUers that I have met here, and I will never forget what I witnessed. Never.

4. I imagine that a survivor of the Holocaust
would never view the world the same again. Will the world ever grow weary enough of such atrocities that they may never again happen?

Life altering? Yes. And I am but a bystander, a witness to a crime.

5. Even just watching what happened from half a world away
was life altering. I do believe it's a warning of what is to come from the B*s* government. And our Australian government copies everything B*s* does.

6. I've been watching as other regions of the world become more conservative
Conservative meaning corporatist bush apologists. It is frightening. What is happening here, as evil as it is, is more far reaching than most people think about. Please just know that I (many of us) do all I (we) can politically to stop this madness. It is just so frustrating and overwhelming.

We really are all in this together.
