we have enough people. those of us who still attend universities can probably garner support from college dems, and other groups what do you think

4. Miers, the war, anything really
We discuss protests other engage in all the time. I think we have enough people to start our own. we could hold simultaneous demonstrations all over the country. Washington, New York, Philadelphia, and college campuses like Harvard, berkly, and Princeton.(feel free to add to the list) If we organize this right I think we can get a lot of support. I'll need to see what other people think before I set a definite date

I have been thinking of starting a protest organization for a while. I'm thinking that groups would come to me and I would help chose a place, apply for a license, send out a press release, garner support from local businesses and provide refreshments (It will be hard for them to say that we are disturbing the peace and upsetting people if we're giving every one pizza or ice cream and cake. and it would attract more people to the demonstration)

So what do you think?

5. I think the campus concept is a good idea
but perhaps somewhere near Federal buildings in that town? Townies don't notice much about demonstrations on campus.

Free food is always a draw!

8. Good point
I remember one protest I partisipated in got barely any attention at all. Even the school paper barely mentioned it. This is why I think we would need a press release, So the media would know about it. And using land marks is always a good idea to get attention. If nothing else It makes for a better picture.

11. FSU campus is close to the govt. buildings downtown.
Organize a march during rush hour either in the morning, at lunch, or in the afternoon when all the state workers are trying to get somewhere and you'll get attention. Now that I think about it, lunch would be the best time - the cube rats are in a rush anyway, and nothing would rile them more than being kept from food. Be sure to get all the permits ahead of time, though, and make sure to alert the local TV stations and the Tallahassee Democrat to get some coverage. It's not like anything else is going on in Tallahassee (in the open, anyway).

14. I can try, but I'm not in Tallahassee anymore.
Moved to Chicago for school. I still know some people back home, but I can't guarantee anything. The Tallahassee critters who'll protest are pretty much already doing so, and it's pretty difficult to get the rest to do anything. The citizenry there are this funny mix of now-mostly-republican state workers, die-hard hippies, good ol' boy southerners and college students (FSU, Florida A&M, and TCC - nearly half the population).

I think it would be a real coup if someone could organize a joint FSU-FAMU protest. That many African-Americans marching together (FAMU is historically black) with the white-bread FSU (though there are definitely African-Americans at FSU) kids would definitely get attention. And, it is the capital... Might scare Jeb! a bit.

6. They don't make...
poster board that big! Wouldn't it be neat if at 5 pm on whatever date, everyone walked out their front door and "took to the street"? Sort of a nationwide Mr. Smith Goes To Washington protest. ;-) There are so many items on my list, I would just have to protest George ...well, I can't forget Karl....then, there's Dick...and,... OMG, my marker just ran out of ink.

7. I have lots of Ideas
one thing I learned in college is that if you want college students to arrive en mass offer free food and t-shirts. (food is generally better). and if we do it right we can get the food donated from local businesses.

And food can emphasize the theme of the protest

for instance we can use pizza or pie to protest Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy by insisting that "everyone get a piece of the (pizza)pie"

If it is against the war we can all wave flags and hand out apple pie to show that we are just as patriotic as any one else, and by that same token any veterans among us can wear their uniforms. "Support our troops, send them home" will be our cry

As for any republicans that get indicted/convicted (anyone that really got nailed by the media)we can offer them a piece of humble pie.

Oh and as far as Miers goes I haven't come up with a food yet but I was thinking if their are any lawyers among us they can hold signs reading "I'm just as qualified as Miers. Can I be nominated next?"

9. Good news I just contacted the Presedent of Delaware college Dems
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 11:26 AM by Devra
She said that she would be happy to send info to her fellow college dems.

I just asked her to see if she could get other universities in on this.

So we might be able to get the college dems if we act fast.
any one else have ideas?

this can be very big!
