Q: Who has * appointed to head up avian flu preparedness?
I heard on Mike Malloy last night that it was another unqualified crony, someone with experience in the transportation sector. Is there a news link on it anywhere?

5. Stew Simonson? Sheesh
I have a friend - semi retired general surgeon (he has petit mal epilepsy as the result of an infection). After he quit surgery he got a Master of Public Health degree (industrial medicine) -- and now he is a "patient advocate" which means he fights with the idiots on the other end of the 800 customer service number.

I have another friend - a semi retired orthopod who had a stroke (who also got a Master of Public Health degree after his stroke) - he now does healthy baby pediatric exams and talks about his days in the Air Force.

It seems that surgeons with minor physical disabilities get Master of Public health degrees - kind of like engineers getting MBA's and school teachers getting Library degrees. A good source of doctors in an emergency.

12. You have not characterized the MPH degree very well.. while it's true
that some doctors from specialties like surgery who get disabilities get this degree (although often times they'll just do stuff like insurance physicals), a lot of people get an MPH as a primary part of their education.

My best friend is a Preventive Medicine doc (it's its own specialty) and has an MPH as well as his Prev Med board certification. Suitable for occupational health issues but it also has much to do with the study and control of epidemics.

So someone with an MPH degree would at least have some understanding of the principles of epidemiology. It appears that this guy has no background in medicine or health whatsoever.

Actually, someone like my friend would be perfect to head up the avian flu effort. And the Department of Defense, the Centers for Disease Control, the Public Health Service, and the NIH are FILLED with qualified people like this.

And this is who they appoint.

Here's an example of what a good MPH program is all about.

6. I heard Junior assembled a team of highly-trained experts...
Please don't judge our pResident, until you know the facts.

I have per a reliable source, that Junior assembled a bird-flu task team.

Here are the five, highly qualified members of that team:

1.) Dreamworks Head Animator for "Chicken Run"
2.) Michael Score--the lead singer for "A Flock of Seagulls"
3.) The vice-president of communications for Banquet--the makers of those delicious pot pies.
4.)Tux the Penguin--the Linux Logo
5.) "Cardinal" Dave Phillips--He knows religion AND birds.

The team, dubbed "Foul Play", will travel the country in a rolling Foghorn Leghorn mobile--educating the public about hand washing.

I don't know about you, but I feel much safer.
