BREAKING: Iraqi Terrorists Launch Massive Counter Offensive On NYC |
|
Did you believe that? Neither did I, but that is essentially what the Bush Administration would like Americans to believe.
Excuse us if we don't believe an Iraqi "informant" could CREDIBLY make such a claim.
In order to believe that we would have to believe:
1. Iraq is Al Qaeda HQ... rebut: this point is not believable because the Bush admin has told us over and over again that Al Qaeda operates as large number of individual cells; it's also not believable because the terrorists in Iraq are actually insurgents trying to get America OUT of IRAQ. It's not a feasible move to the insurgency to reach their goals for group of Iraqi Al Qaeda members to be able to coordinate an attack on NYC.
2. Al Qaeda is a highly-structured, well-coordinated organization... rebut: again, this point is NOT TRUE at all. All indicators given by experts working to fight terrorism point in completely the opposite direction: that Al Qaeda is a loosely-coupled group of independently acting cells.
3. Our government has NO REASON whatsoever for FABRICATING terrorist attacks... rebut: unfortunately, it's very sad to say, that apparently they do, since now we know the threat was a fabrication. The threat was also timed immediately on the heals of a 'HUGH!!!1!' terror speech by Bush and worked out very conveniently for Bloomie. The last such terror threat was, um, LAST NOVEMBER just before the ELECTION... And we'll find out many more connections of terror threats with bad-news for Bush.
Fortunately, the press is getting weary of this shtick and Olbermann is doing a story on the associations of bad-news terror alerts tomorrow.
NO ONE should be satisfied with the "OFFICIALLY" reported story about bad info from an IRAQI INFORMANT. If you believe that, PM me about some bridges I have to sell.

5. While I appreciate the point you are trying to make |
|
This kind of thing actually causes people some serious (if momentary) panic. Many of us live in, work in or have friends or family in NYC. I don't think you really need to make your point in this manner.

9. Well said! We should not become either flippant or dismissive of threats |
|
I am a displaced New Yorker and have family and friends there and although the last "threat" was questionable, I would much rather that they err on the side of caution. And, we as a society must be careful to not become immune to threats and put our guard down. Was the timing and/or information suspicious? Of course. But mocking it and joking around about it isn't the way to combat that.

No Mocking and Joking are required... the Admin has made a MOCKERY out of the TERRORIST ALERTS ALL BY THEMSELVES.
First the Color-Coding SCHEME Then Duck-tape and Plastic Sheeting Scare Whatever Happened to ANTHRAX HOW MANY COUNTLESS TIMES HAS A THREAT BEEN MADE NOW THAT HAS BEEN BASELESS?!?!?
Not to mention the FACT that the ADMIN COULD NOT EVEN RESPOND TO A REAL DISASTER!
Do you think a PRESS CONFERENCE and SCRAMBLING ALL THE POLICE CARS IN NYC will make us safer? That's the WRONG time to be protecting us... a REAL Administration with a REAL CLUE on how to protect us would not even let something GET THAT FAR AS A THREAT.
I'm merely POINTING OUT THE ABSURDITY of our HOMELAND SECURITY.

7. Like I said before, if we foiled 3 attempts on OUR soil... |
|
Doesn't that make his : It's better we fight them over there than here" a completely STOOPID justification for war?
IF we foiled 3 attempts, we aren't scaring them away from here after all.

8. Yup, "The Power of Nightmares" |
|
they need the bogey men...the Nazis (the older bunch that is) knew about the power of nightmares and they are on record as saying just how effective frightening people can really be when used as a policy tool.
