(Coastal) Real Estate Price Bubble: What happened to Japan's bubble?

I remember reading all those articles in the 70's and 80's how insane the Tokyo real estate bubble was, and I understand it popped in a big way.

Anyone with insight or link to a good article about what happened subsequently? Did it play a big part in what's been going on in their economy the last 15-20 years?

Any insight for us in the U.S. from Japan's experience with this?

Of course not all places have gone up like Florida and California. I am not sure if all of Japan went up like crazy either, though.
