'Commander in Chief' seen as Clinton warmup

FRAZIER MOORE

Associated Press

NEW YORK - ABC's "Commander in Chief" would seem to be a pretty straightforward drama.

The president dies. The vice president (played by Geena Davis) succeeds him in the Oval Office. And, omigosh, she's a woman!

But there's more going on here, suspicious minds are thinking: "Commander in Chief" isn't just this fall's most-watched new series - it's a sinister scheme by Hollywood lefties to hype Hillary Clinton for the White House.

Could "Commander in Chief" (9 p.m. EDT Tuesdays) really be a weekly infomercial for Hillary?

8. Oh please, and this is suppose to sell me on Hillary by using a
fictitious TV program. The right wing are getting stranger and stranger- they must think we are as gullible as they are.

9. If true, then they assume that Hillary won't be leading the Prez ticket in
2008.

Wasn't Geena's character VP before becoming Prez? That means she was the sidekick during the general election campaign, not the lead.

10. The only thing I didn't like about the show...
Is that she wasn't elected to office as Pres. I think her role was diminished by getting the office by default. This is a totally unbelievable scenario, IMO.

BTW, I do enjoy the show :)

Peter Coyote. He's hot and very progressive in his real life politics!

11. I prefer to think of it as a Pelosi warm-up
as in:
1) Fitz Grand Jury Indicts
2) Dems win House & Senate in 06
3) Pelosi elected Speaker
4) shrub & dick impeached & convicted
5) Pelosi POTUS by succession rules.

:D :D :D

(hey, a guy can dream)

12. Well, my take is people will watch this and forget about "House"
who won't have an new episode until November. Tsk, tsk. Bad move on FOX's part if you ask me. I missed C-I-F last week because I thought House would be on and the recorder didn't record CIF. Bummer. Tonight I'll be sure to watch it. I like Geena Davis, she's very poised and this role fits her well. So glad Donald Sutherland (sizzle) is on it too. Still handsome at his age, such great hair.

13. Oh, sure - all those attacks of fill- in-the -blank-Clinton -faux-pas
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 04:12 PM by zbdent
"that didn't go over very well" were all just to make her look great . . .

Hey, didn't Liddy "Mrs. War Hero" Dole run in 2000? And isn't there all kind of talk of Exxon Valdez, er, Condi Rice running? (And she isn't legally married to her "husband"!)

16. I'm enjoying this show and I think it is leading the thinking
of a woman president. Love that her VP pick is a thinly-disguised Wes Clark.

BTW, the showrunner was changed this past week. Steven Bocho is the new showrunner. Could be promising.

19. Comment on British TV:
"Some say that a TV drama with a female president will help a possible Hillary Clinton bid in 2008. However, it's worth remembering that in the 5 years of a West Wing show featuring a president so intelligent he's won the Nobel Prize for Economics, Americans have nevertheless twice elected George W. Bush."
