Is James Carville physically ill?
He looks like he has lost a lot of weight and has aged a lot since I last saw him.

Is Mary Matlin part of this Plame investigation?

6. I knew she worked in the VPs staff
Was she under investigation for something else or was that just part of the "K Street" plot - the HBO show?

3. He is aging. James is in his sixties.
I'm sure that some of those were tough years.

5. How About Conflicted
Poor James...sleep with dogs, wake up with sleeze...

Yep, Mary's part of the "White House Iraq Group" with Scooter and Turdblossom and all our favorite characters in this unfolding story. You gotta imagine that pillow talk must be quite interesting these days.

James slept himself off the island. Repugnicans never have trusted him and now few Democrats do, either.

In my case, I knew James was worthless on this issue when he would be paired with Novakula on Crossfire and he'd dismiss the Wilson charges and the investigation as being much of nothing. Corporal Cueball was demoted that day.

Peace...

8. You nailed it, KharmaTrain
They're neighbors of ours in our little city across the Potomac from Washington.

Apparently, they can't keep help, since Mrs. Carville - she hates being called that, we've learned - is an hysterical harpy who doesn't seem to be satisfied with anything anyone ever does.

Their two little girls are sweet little things, but they don't do well playing with other kids, and their nannies are forever breaking up fights. However, the girls get invited to all kinds of kids' parties and stuff, simply because of their parents' reputations. It's very sad.

The best of it is that there are reports of late-night shouting matches at their house. I doubt that Carville, when he married the thrive-divorced (I believe) Ms. Matalin, knew what he was getting himself into.

13. Was There Any Doubt Who Wore The Pants?
I'd watch them on Russert each year and shake my head in what the two ever saw in the other. Truly strange bedfellows...and speaking from nearly 25 years of my own marriage, it can't be getting much easier as they age and the "blooms fall off the roses".

The poor kids. I see many of the hoi-poloi in my travels and their kids have everything...cellphones, cars, computers, video games...everything but respect and love.

Peace...

23. lust does not a marriage make
Just because they were attracted to each other doesn't mean they should have married and bred.

What could they possibly have in common?

And why did he fall in lust with her in the first place?

These are the questions that fill my brain whenever I see them together.

26. Opposites Attract
Honestly I think lust was one of the last things these people held in common...and the thought of it makes my dinner difficult to keep down.

When I first saw the two in '92, it was kinda cute...you could see in those days a playful challenging...while they agreeded to disagree and it seemed their differences is what drew them close. This had to increase after the election as Matalin was on the outside and could play mommy and TV pundit. James pretty much did the same.

The turning point is when Matalin joined Chenney's staff. She all but vanished from the public radar. You rarely see/hear her these days, but you know she's deeply involved in a lot of what's been going on. The deeper she's gotten, the bigger a stress this has to be on James who is checkmated by his obvious conflicts.

Hopefully there's something in their relationship that we don't see. I'm greatly disappointed in James as his brilliance is fully compromised now.

31. Whoa sorry!
Didn't mean to make you :puke: !

Yeah, they did engage in playful challenges in the beginning...and sometimes opposites do attract. But I always thought it had to have been a physical thing...not that I understood it mind you. :eyes:

18. Interesting.
I used to think that maybe Mrs. Carville would be the WHIG member who would flip because she didn't want to go to prison and leave the little girls to be raised by their dad.

You're probably right that James never dreamed that his marriage would come to this. When he and Matalin got together way back when, it was all precious and too, too chic, the "mixed" marriage. Now, I'll bet it is pretty awful for him to contemplate the lengths his wife was willing to go to for the Bushes.

22. I really did expect better of him,
but, in the end, he turned out to be just another K Street whore, selling his services to the highest bidder.

When am I gonna learn?

(By the way, I have an ex-husband who proceeded to rack up three more marriages after we split: one wife divorced him, another wife announced that she was a lesbian and divorced him, and the third died. When I mentioned that it seemed like women would do pretty much anything to get away from him, he didn't think it was funny. Humorless old guy, he is.

Thrice-divorced is always a hint, I think.)

11. I'm one that has quit trusting him
and I've read his books and liked them. But now I look at what the Republicans have done to this country and I see it as something more serious than a simple political view. His wife hangs out with traitors!! She plots and plans with these Bush criminals. It's much different than your average Joe and Jane America who are married but one leans one way and one leans the other. Usually politics aren't the life of those kind of people, but with the Carville's it is. Her job is to help Bush screw America!! I just can't trust him as much as I would like to because of this.

17. I like him, but
I have to agree with you. I can't see certain family members because of politics. Not because we simply disagree (there are many of those and I can handle that) but because they ACTIVELY work for the other side which I find reprehensible. I don't know how James does it.

27. I really adored him but when he married her

he changed.

One thing we should realize is that they will do ANYTHING to get the Rethugs into position.

Look at Rush and the Man Donna K.! That is a set up to make her think he likes her so she will shill for him. And she CNN does.

Mary did the same thing to Carville - he was USED and he knows it now.

34. A Wash Up like Donna Brazile... Guns for Hire...have no loyalty, except to
themselves. When they get involved in a big Brawl like what happened to Clinton then Stolen Election/Bush Bot's Implode/More Criminal Activities...they start to implode.

But...through it all they are "hired guns." They have tough hides and will live again to be hired and shoot to kill.

It's a fact of political life, I guess. But, I don't like it and wish we could root it out.

I can't imagine his brief appearances on CNN pay the bills. Carville seems to be definitely keeping a low profile, and yes, probably because Mrs. Carville is in it up to her pointed little beak.

14. He didn't look too great, did he?
KharmaTrain and OldLeftyLawyer above have excellent insights into this, but I will add that he had some family deaths in the last year or so (I think it was a brother?), plus - and this would be a biggie - he's from Louisiana, got most of his family down there.

You put it all together, that man can't be living too happy. I feel for him. I sometimes disagree with him, but I love him to death. He seems to be a good man, he's funny and he thinks on his feet. I can only imagine, if the harpy he's married to is involved in this business, how worried he must be. This is more than policy differences. If she's involved in this AT ALL, she has not only betrayed her country, she's put * & the repuke agenda AHEAD of her husband and her children. What she did to her family was a bertrayal of trust, and it would be really hard to deal with.

21. Carville does seem
to be a good man and that's why I could never understand how he could hook up with Matalin. She is so opposite. As long as I have been aware of her, she has been exceptionally mean and willing to do anything to support her party. I'll bet Carville is a really henpecked spouse. And he can't leave her. She'd take him to the cleaners and make his life even more miserable. Mary Matalin doesn't appear to respect her husband very much.

16. If I remember correctly, he took a campaign job in Venezuela and
worked for Chavez's opponent? Is that correct?

And whose campaign did he work on in Israel?

Sorry for the fuzzy memory. Will someone help out.

If true about Chavez, it is mighty disappointing, because the right wing regime knew who Chavez represented.
