Poll: Americans Favor Bush's Impeachment If He Lied about Iraq

By a margin of 50% to 44%, Americans say that President Bush should be impeached if he lied about the war in Iraq, according to a new poll commissioned by AfterDowningStreet.org, a grassroots coalition that supports a Congressional investigation of President Bush's decision to invade Iraq in 2003.

The poll was conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs, the highly-regarded non-partisan polling company. The poll interviewed 1,001 U.S. adults on October 8-9.

2. I would hope the fundies would support Impeachment for lies - They sure
as hell supported it over a blow job.
Only a few thousand sperm were killed then. Not Human lives.

But I forgot the fundies value the unborn more than the living.

3. But we know that most Americans think he lied about Iraq.
So why the hell is it just progressives calling for his impeachment? Seriously, why the hell can't America actually put two and two together? "Wa-ell...I think Bush might've lied on Iraq. So?"
"Do you think pols who lie should be impeached?"
"Sure do."
"And if you think Bush lied, he should be impeached, then?"
"Yup."
"So you think Bush should be impeached."
"Well, let's not be hasty!"

7. "If" is the operative word.
Feeling that he lied is one thing, proving that he did is an entirely different matter.

The faulty intelligence in sitting in the Oval Office.

8. Because our president is really Gore anyway
Or Kerry, though I think Gore would have won reelection.

Just to say, it gets me every time, this isn't really our president. Wish we could fix that, I really do.

Thanks for sharing that, it's great news the impeachment is gaining ground. Now if it could just friggin take off, lift wheels already, hit the afterburners, something

13. Pretty significant
Last year, IIRC, only 40 percent said he should be impeached if it is proven that he lied. A 10 point turnaround is very nice to see.

14. Bob Fertik: "The results of this poll are truly astonishing," ....
"The results of this poll are truly astonishing," said AfterDowningStreet.org co-founder Bob Fertik. "Bush's record-low approval ratings tell just half of the story, which is how much Americans oppose Bush's policies on Iraq and other issues. But this poll tells the other half of the story - that a solid plurality of Americans want Congress to consider removing Bush from the White House."

<clip>

Support for Impeachment Surged Since June

The Ipsos poll shows a dramatic transformation in support for Bush's impeachment since late June. (This is only the second poll that has asked Americans about their support for impeaching Bush in 2005, despite his record-low approval ratings.) The Zogby poll conducted June 27-29 of 905 likely voters found that 42% agreed and 50% disagreed with a statement virtually identical to the one used by Ipsos Public Affairs.

And, as the article notes, "Support for Clinton Impeachment Was Much Lower," in fact in August and September of 1998 , "... only 26% supported actual impeachment and removal."

Peace.

15. Good luck framing it as a "lie". And good luck proving it
Yeah, he lied. But we can't prove it. That's why they went through such Lents to use forged documents.

That way, they can say they were "deceived"

21. Well, well, well. As they say, "What comes round, goes round."
Only 36% favoured Big Dog's impeachment! And that was a CNN poll, so you can knock a good 10% off that.

Mind you, a stain on a blue dress, even a brand spanking new one, doesn't quite amount to presiding over economic ruin, massive security failures, treason, fraud, grand larceny... etc, etc, does it? It's all happened on his watch.
