Why do President spend $$$$$$ on a 2nd term? |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 03:55 PM by napi21
This is not my question. Somebody on CNN asked that yesterday. It's a great question!
I've never been a great student of history, but it seems like any president who does get a second term always get's into BIG trouble! I was a baby when FDR was Pres, so I don't know about his, but all the ones I remember have all had problems!
Wouldn't it be better, at least for their place in history, to maybe be remembered as mostly great?
I believe every politician has a lot to hide by the time they reach the top office, and it starts getting public in that 2nd 4 years!

And nothing happens to them for the first term, so they think, "Sweet, man! Let's keep this up!"

First, is to secure a better place in history. Another is the stigma of a 1 term president. Unfinished business might be a motivator. Or the sheer desire of power that puts them there to begin with.

3. The damage control monitors can give a president....... |
|
4 years of protection by calling in every favor and bending every editor's arm. After that they're on their own and the flood gates open. I wish someone would have pulled bush's plug before '04, the country doesn't deserve this shit.

to push through their "agenda", as evil as this one seems to be?

5. The only trouble Clinton got into during his 2nd term |
|
was political trouble. I wouldn't dare suggest that a BJ is as dangerous to our country as CIA-leaks, WMD lies, fake-terrorist threats, and all the other crap being rammed down our throats by these guys.
2nd terms are weaker because the public tires of the same face/voice all the time. Scandal is what puts you in the history books!

6. Well, Supreme Court nominations, making all records secret, |

pardons....there are many insidious things going on right now, despite *'s current pressures. We won't even know it all for years.

7. We don't exactly have a large pool of modern presidents who've |
|
served two terms.
FDR -- elected to four terms; died in office
Truman -- elected to two terms Eisenhower -- elected to two terms
Kennedy -- elected to one term (assassinated) Johnson -- did not seek re-election (Vietnam)
Nixon -- resigned in second term (Watergate)
Ford -- did not win own term Carter -- lost re-election bid
Reagan -- elected to two terms
Bush, Sr. -- lost re-election bid
Clinton -- elected to two terms Shrub -- (s)elected to two terms
