Democrats will release an agenda

http://blog.dccc.org/mt/archives/003691.html

Seeing an opening to reach voters while Republicans are beset by turmoil, House Democrats are privately planning to accelerate the timing of the release of their platform and the major policies they will promote on the campaign trail next year.

Key Democratic sources say Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other House leaders are putting the finishing touches on what arguably will be Democrats most detailed “positive” election-year agenda since the party lost power more than a decade ago. Pelosi has been coordinating with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), key Democratic strategists, advisers and outside interest groups on the policy platform as well as the party’s broader 2006 message.

3. Good. I'm looking for short, snappy, and catchy.
If I don't see the words "Crony" and "Corruption" anywhere in this platform statement, though, I'm going to seriously consider hiring ninja to kill off the entire Democratic leadership.

4. Am I alone in thinking this is somewhat stupid?
I'm sure they mean well, but Dems will JUST BE HANDING Repubs a new smoke/mirror point.

They'll shift their focus to pointing out all the "flaws" in the thinking of those "liberals."

I don't think they should say jack shit at this point. Let the Repub flaws stay in the headlines. Maybe put something out RIGHT before the 2006 elections. So there's no time to let the Repubs use it against the Dems.

10. You're probably right. It's just that when Dems try to stand for something
they have to fight the last few decades of the right equating LIBERAL with EVIL. (And they've done a good job of it.)

I've noticed when wingnuts are scared, they're really hungry for something to attack.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

7. The Repugs are knee deep in their own shit right now.
Nobody cares what criticisms they have of them Dems anymore. That isn't the story that leads.

8. Good let's define ourselves
It's time to let the voters know just who we are and what we stand for, developing an agenda is a good first step, I want more than just repuke lite though.

11. Yeah, that's a little disconcerting
We need to get some ideas into the mind of Americans but I hope this isn't pissed down their legs like in the recent past.

16. Yep- sounds weak and dare I say
flip floppy.

This is counterproductive unless it's bold and truly addresses the issues in a way that Americans can identify with in no uncertain terms.

A lot of these so called "strategists" are little more than cowards- they're smarmy, arrogant and most of all SEASONED LOSERS.

If the Dems run with them yet again- rather than playing 2006 like Gingrich played 1994- the Dems are doomed to continued irrelvancy.

And you know what? Rightly so.

12. As much as I despised Newt Gingrich, his "Contract For America" defined
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 05:33 PM by Poiuyt
in simple terms what The Republicans wanted to do, and they worded it so that it said what people wanted to hear. I'm sure Democrats can do something very similar.

I think this is important as nobody seems to think the Democrats stand for anything.

13. Can we sue the Republicans for breach of contract?

It's a good idea but I don't think they accomplished any of the stated goals, just the devious ones.

15. If we do this, and I hope it happens, they won't be able to use the
meme that Dems have no plan. That is one of their favorite talking points.
