BREAKING: SCOOTER LIED
http://nationaljournal.com/about/njweekly/stories/2005/1011nj1.htm#

<snip>
Libby also did not disclose the June 23 conversation when he was twice interviewed by FBI agents working on the Plame leak investigation, the sources said.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald apparently learned about the June 23 conversation for the first time just days ago, after attorneys for Miller and The New York Times informed prosecutors that Miller had discovered a set of notes on the conversation.

Miller had spent 85 days in jail for contempt of court for refusing to testify before the grand jury about her conversations with Libby and other Bush administration officials regarding Plame. She was released from jail after she agreed to cooperate with Fitzgerald's investigation. Miller testified before the grand jury on September 30, and attorneys familiar with the matter said that she agreed to be questioned further by Fitzgerald today.

Meanwhile, in recent days Fitzgerald has also expressed significant interest in whether Libby may have sought to discourage Miller-either directly or indirectly through her attorney-from testifying before the grand jury, or cooperating in other ways with the criminal probe, according to attorneys familiar with Miller's discussions with prosecutors.

2. wasn't it a "June 23 conversation" that sank Nixon?
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 05:17 PM by MnFats
June 23, 1972, I think.
He fought like hell to keep it secret because he knew it would contribute to his downfall and disgrace...

18. It was indeed
the "smoking gun" tape of Trickie Dick and Haldeman discussing the coverup. It also contained this very amusing exchange:

Nixon: Well who was the asshole that did? Is it Liddy? Is that the fellow? He must be a little nuts.

Haldeman: He is.

Nixon: I mean he just isn't well screwed on is he? Isn't that the problem?

20. Nice catch! June 23, 1972 was the date of "The Smoking Gun Tape"
The final blow came with the decision by the Supreme Court to order Nixon to release more White House tapes. One of these became known as the 'smoking gun' tape when it revealed that Nixon had participated in the Watergate cover-up as far back as June 23, 1972. Around the country, there were calls for Nixon to resign.

This is the transcript of the recording of a meeting between President Nixon and H.R. Haldeman in the Oval Office on June 23, 1972 from 10.04am to 11.39am.

39. I thought of that too....
The reason i remember the date is that June 23rd is my mother's bday.

Anyway, here is the smoking gun tape transcript:
http://www.watergate.info/tapes/72-06-23_smoking-gun.shtml

Yes, this is deja vu all over again. A president is gonna be thrown out of office for essentially covering up the truth about an unpopular war.

Now if only we can get massive numbers of people on the streets to protest, because we know, with the exception of a handful of congresspeople, there is bipartisan support for being "successful" (i.e. "pacifying" Iraq with bombs and bullets)

I don't want no freakin exit strategy. I want the troops home now!

Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 05:10 PM by Neil Lisst
He's toast. He's going away for sure. It's almost a certainty they have him on perjury, and that goes hand in hand with conspiracy to obstruct, and obstruction of justice. And maybe, suborning perjury.

I think Scooter the Pooter is looking at a multi-count indictment, probably at least 4 separate counts.

32. I know I'm paranoid, but isn't it possible that Miller may have
calculatedly held back news about the June 23rd conversation with Libby and they've produced it now to delay the proceedings, perhaps have Fitz have to extend the GJ, stalling for time for some other dastardly plan that might derail our government and make the court case null and void. I know it puts Libby in hot water but maybe the stall gives them time to come up with a plan, and keep the heat off Bush and Cheney. The longer this draws out the more nervous I get, desperate people might try desperate things to avoid the indictments coming down. I just hope this new information still allows Fitz to hand down charges before the 28th (well before for my sanity) and not have to extend the GJ.

:tinfoilhat: I know, I know, I'm wearing it.

35. bunny planet, I think the prosecutor outsmarted THEM
Edited on Tue Oct-11-05 05:46 PM by Neil Lisst
I believe the prosecutor let Judy Miller get out on the thin ice and then told her lawyer he had the goods on her for perjury.

She and Scooter thought they would leave the privilege intact for their June discussions, because they didn't want the FBI or the prosecutor to know about those events.

But Fitz knew about the June meeting, and it had to be his letting Miller know he had her nailed that produced this latest quantum advance in the case. If she gave up those docs, I think it has to mean she's made a deal.

She spent 3 months in the slammer, and she doesn't want to go back ever. Only a deal to give up Libby would get her head out of the noose.

Libby is going down hard.
