The Day We Almost Lost Denver - May 11, 1969 - Story, photos & audio
This plutonium fire at the Rocky Flats nuclear bomb factory came frighteningly close to devastating Denver on May 11, 1969. Thanks to the brave firefighters and sheer luck, it didn't. But the story of this fire - its causes and consequences - has much to tell about the assumptions and risks of the nuclear weapons age, which continues to threaten today's world.

1. Thanks, bob.
I'm dog-sitting so stuck with a crappy dial-up connection, but I'll check out the video tomorrow when I get home.

One of my best friends has been working for about 15 years on the Rocky Flats clean-up. Her son developed health problems because their home is near the factory site. I had no idea there had been a fire here back then, I arrived in the area just 5 years ago.

Would you post this in the Colorado forum, too? I'm sure they'd be interested in this.

2. in view of the fact that I was just reading an article about the lies we
are STILL being told about Rocky Flats, and the serious hazards it posed, and continues to pose, this article is most timely. thank you so much for sharing it. I had forgotten about that fire, although we were certainly extremely worried at the time.
