Shriver on Oprah
Why is Oprah so big on having Maria Shriver on her show. This is the at least the third time Oprah has had Shriver on her show in the last two years. Today Shriver will be talking to Oprah about the invisible poor in this country. Oprah always seems to have Shriver on her show to talk about subjects she (Shriver) seems to know nothing about or has never experienced. I am waiting for the show where Oprah and Shriver will talk about what it is like to be homeless.

1. Oprah has said they are good friends.
I'm guessing that may be why she's on the show as frequently as she is.

3. They've been friends for a long time though, I must admit,
Maria doesn't do much for the Kennedy image. I have never understood how you can be married to someone of a different political persuasion. Unless, of course, she isn't.

4. But I love Oprah
I'm sorry, I'm not capable of being objective about Oprah. I try to, but it seems like no matter what she does, like having Tom Cruise on to act ridiculous, all I do is defend her. Complete lack of objectivity. It's not good, but I'd be lying if I said otherwise. She could do darn near anything, and I'd be just like a shrub supporter, either denying the truth of the matter, or making silly bend-over-backwards excuses. Sad but true, and I've just got to say it, because I think I'm far from being the only one.

Don't know why she likes Maria, but, I can't muster enough desire to think less of her for it. I guess I look at her as a hero, someone I won't second guess. I know it's not smart, but then again, it's also allowing her to be human, to allow her to be less than perfect. I guess.

Maybe in some ways we're all (most, some?) just as capable of following someone blindly, like so many followed Bush. I think in Oprah's case though, it's more fact based. Oprah really is great, and generous, well meaning and informed. Past that, I just can't ask any more of her. In fact, if she were any more perfect, heck, I'd be afraid of her being snatched up, like the last "perfect" person was, you know? Almost glad she has a less perfect side. Terribly glad she's human, and that she's a human being alive at the same time I am.

Love Oprah. All hugs. She's like psychic teddy bear, in my mind she's gained mythical mystical proportions :) I'm sure it's a weakness of mine, but I feel better about admiring her than I have anyone else for a long time, especially female role models, and one so strongly on the side of women, in a way meant to help everyone. I can really get behind that and respect it highly. So I have to keep my sanity and my hope, and I just can't put down Oprah at all.

Past all that, I'm interested in the answers to your question too.

7. Can you imagine how she can almost single handedly save our country
with that power, and she doesn't. All she has to do is to speak out about this morally bankrupt administration and how America has been stolen from us, and how many people she could wake-up in the process? And that is why I have lost respect for her.......

14. That Is Part of My Problem
I contend that Oprah brings Shriver on her show to talk about things she has never experienced or has never examined. I do not see anywhere in Shriver's record where she worked with the poor or even interviewed poor people. I have not watched all of Shriver's interviews so I may have missed that part, but it seems to me that she really is not in a position to talk about the poor in this country. I felt the same way when Oprah had Shriver on to talk about raising independent women. I do not feel Shriver is an independent woman and not because she is married, but because she is willing to allow her husband to tell her what to wear. Schwarzenegger claimed in a Playboy article that he did not allow Shriver to wear pants when the are in public together. That does not seem like an independent women to me. I just think Oprah has Shriver come on the show and talk about things she knows nothing about.

6. Anderson Cooper is also on today....
so I can overlook Oprah's having Shriver on again to see him. I think he did a great job on Katrina coverage and he now has had a first hand look at the poor in this country. As for Shriver, she has never impressed me much and I doubt she can relate to poverty at all. I think Anderson has done well empathizing with the underprivileged even though he is Gloria Vanderbilt's son.

9. Public service has always been a Kennedy value...
I read this several years ago. The entire Kennedy family is expected to contribute and do what they can to help the public. I remember being impressed because it was continually passed on from one generation to the other.

Considering Oprah and Maria Shriver are friends, I'm not too surprised at pushing for Ahhnold to get elected.

11. Maria's mother is the one who started Special Olympics
Because of what happened to her sister Rosemary. The Shrivers and Carolyn Kennedy are, IMO, the best of the clan.

10. Maria Shriver befriended Oprah when they were in Baltimore
Together. Oprah was an African-American woman, a double whammy, just starting out. Shriver took her under her wing, and I'm such Oprah being known as friendly with a Kennedy didn't hurt. She's always remembered that kindness. Although I don't agree with the Arnie shilling, I at least understand that it's probably Oprah repaying a debt.

12. Hubs & I used to hire a limo driver who chauffered Maria's mom sometimes:
What an earful we got! The old bird is really mean, cheap, non-tipper, sleeps on diff. FLOOR of the hotel when travelling w/ her husband, and is snootier than minor royalty.

I don't care for that branch of the K family. Sarge seems okay but Eunce STOLE Maggie Daley (Mayor D's wife's) idea for the Special Olympics and took all the credit. Word is Maggie's been pragmatic about it since it helped media-wise, but what a creepy family, including & especially Arnie...

Oprah is a bit startruck, eh?
