You're cool, court nominee told Bush in private letter
http://www.guardian.co.uk/usa/story/0,12271,1590196,00.html

George Bush's already uphill struggle to put his nominee, Harriet Miers, in the supreme court got harder yesterday with the publication of personal correspondence that added weight to charges of cronyism. Notes that Ms Miers sent to Mr Bush in the late 1990s, when he was Texas governor and she was his personal lawyer and the head of the state lottery commission, range from deferential to fawning.

In a typical example, she wrote: "You are the best governor ever - deserving of great respect. All I hear is how great you and Laura are doing. Texas is blessed."

After an engagement at which Mr Bush signed an autograph for a girl, Ms Miers gushed: "I was struck by the tremendous impact you have on the children whose lives you touch." She said he was "cool". "I appreciate your friendship and candour," Mr Bush wrote back.

The release of the private correspondence by the Texas archives came at the worst time for Mr Bush, as scepticism over Ms Miers spreads in Republican ranks. The Washington Times reported that nearly half the party's senators remained unconvinced about her suitability.

1. Interesting that the editor (presumably) changed the spelling of
candor to the British equivalent, even in quotes. In an editing class I took, they did instruct us to correct for spelling in quoted material, but it looks funny when attributed to Bush's pen.

2. Why do I Ithink
That cool is not a word that most people would desribe these people with. Miles Davis they are not. Matter of fact I can guarantee that none of these people were listening to Miles or anyone else who was cool.

17. Plus a smiley face
and little hearts or daisies around her name.
This woman has a serious crush. So does Condi.
It's eerie.
This is not how well-adjusted, mature women act toward men while in the workplace.
Bush seems to have quite a few "office wives".
But, then, he needs all the help he can get and I think he's more comfortable with having his work mamas tell him what to do.
Bush is insecure and these women are starved for male attention.
They all deserve each other.

9. Bush's main requirements to nominate or appoint someone seems to be....
that they be suck ups, members of his fan club and idolize him. :puke:

WTH? Everything I've had time to read that's written by her (and a few others he's picked) to Bush reads like a fan letter from some fawning panty throwing teeny bopper to their "FAV" idol.

Oh and what's with this "best Governor ever"... of Texas? Someone told me once a long time ago that the Gov position in Texas is mostly a figure head position compared to many other states where the Gov actually has some power. (I know they can do a "stay" and assume they have veto power as well but ???) Was I misinformed?

15. "You're cool" . . .
Eva told Adolf in private letter.

Mier's "strong pro-life position" obviously doesn't extend to:
1. a war that is slaughtering thousands of innocent civilians (and yes, there's even some BABIES)

2. the death penalty

3. poverty

The list goes on and on.

18. I think it's time for the dictionary entry!
I'll leave you lot to work out if it's an appropriate word to describe Mrs Miers.

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Candour

1: the quality of being honest and straightforward in attitude and speech
2: ability to make judgments free from discrimination or dishonesty
