29. sweet
im setting my sailboat up for cruising, since we cut anti-piracy raids piracy is on the rise all over, so im really thinking seriously about getting a .50 with a stanchion rail mount. One or 2 rounds aimed below the waterline would be good to stop a boat..

16. It's not as hard kicking as you might imagine.
I've fired .270s, .308s and shotguns that kicked far harder. Hardest kicker I've ever fired was one side of an old double barreled shotgun. Ow.

The Barrett was interesting to shoot. Tremendous capabilities from it and the .50 rounds. But it's not for me. I've no real opportunities to shoot at the ranges where it excells, the ammo is freaking expensive, and it doesn't take much penetration power to poke holes in paper targets. :)

4. Pretty good investment especially with people trying to ban them
50caliberterror.com and their friends are doing more to sell 50 caliber rifles than all the gun manufacturers' best efforts at marketing.

8. .50 Caliber sniper rifles are mammals.
.50 Caliber sniper rifles fight ALL the time.

The purpose of the .50 Caliber sniper rifle is to flip out and kill people.

S&W makes a .50 caliber magnum REVOLVER. I don't think any human being could fire that mother with one hand without breaking their wrist.

a thinly-disguised ad for 50caliberterror.com
right here on DU??

Shouldn't weapons advocates be posting elsewhere, or is this OK now?
To moderators: If it's OK on DU, please state that.

17. One of the best things about a .50 cal round is that you don't have to
actually hit your target. The round (bullet) is so big and so fast that the shock-wave will remove body parts that are within 3 or 4 inches of the trajectory. So even if you're not a sniper caliber shot you can still kill at long range. 1 shot 1 kill. :sarcasm:

27. I dunno. The only thing I shoot are copperheads and rattlesnakes,
although that's actually illegal in TN, so don't tell anyone.

But .50 cals aren't very practical for snakes.

25. So this is now the Weapons Market Forum?
What purpose does this weapon have other than killing other human beings with maximum force at long range?

This is not a hunting rifle or even a weapon for home protection. You'll have to pardon me if I personally find the slobbering chorus over this killing weapon more than troubling.

31. You can shut down entire power grids and knock refineries off line with one
with a little time spent on vulnerability studies, you could cause lots of chaos and mayhem in your town and never kill anybody.

Try it with the HBX exploding round.

33. Maybe this belongs in the Guns forum?
Having said that, I think 50caliberterror.com is just another "fear and loathing" site with little in the way objective analysis.

I support private ownership of .50-caliber rifles, but I think there are legitimate grounds for a public safety debate regarding these firearms due to their range and damage potential.
