I am so sick of this crap about Christians whining about discrimination
Yesterday I was at a teacher meeting where we had to make a coat of arms about ourselves. Well over half of the teachers devoted a part of the coat of arms to their Christian religious activities. I literally can't imagine that if I had put in something about a boyfriend on mine that I would have gotten by with that. Give me a freeking break. Discrimination my ass.

2. I have a gay friend
with a wonderful tattoo on his biceps-the state of Texas (his home state) with the pink triangle in it. He wears sleeveless shirts a lot, so that people get the message. Wonder what those teachers would have thought if you'd done something similar on your coat of arms?

4. the fundies have turned the meaning of god...
into something very ugly. I was raised a Catholic, and do not consider myself to be a Christian. My understanding of god is a spiritual belief grown out of recovery in AA. Thank Christ I'm not in the same position now...getting sober...in this environment, because getting over my 'beliefs' went a long way to my facing reality. For those already burned by a religion, the constant babble is like salt in a wound.

15. I agree...
To begin with, I was raised in a very secular household, and consider myself to be agnostic, but I was raised to respect everyone, no matter what. Well this morning my brother was visiting, and somehow we starting talking about religion, and he said, "that all Christians were crazy". And I said "thats not true, there many decent ones out there, it's just the crazies that have the spotlight". It's pretty sad, that these nutcase fundies have hijacked not only a political party, but a religion. And they go around playing the victim, whining about how they are the victims all the time. They make me sick, because they aren't the victims, they are the assholes in charge, and try to suppress every single opposition to them, they demonize not only other religions, and beliefs systems, but also those who don't follow their led within the very own religion. These punks need to get lost once and for all,but it is hard because they own the media, will all the money they have stolen over the years from the fools who listen to and believe them. While those who want to counter them don't have the resouces and connections to do so.

5. Fundies Scream About Discrimination When...
Fundamentalist "Christians" yowl about how they're being discriminated against when the secular media and the secular authorities don't comply with their political and ideological wish lists down to the last jot and tittle.

Fundamentalist "Christians" surpass even the most infantile members of the old New Left as the all-star American crybabies.

6. Almost worse is the crappy way they treat teachers...
Imagine asking a room full of executives or physicists to use markers and crayons and make their own cute little coats of arms.

You should have made one with a masturbation section, a corner for cocaine use, one for paganism and one for the love of pie.

That would be the last time they insulted teachers with that kind of activity.

7. The idea was for us to try an activity we might use with the kids
though I was kind of wanting to just get the info and go home.

11. Yeah, I know, I've been there.
They treat teachers like children.

How many times are students in teacher education classes asked to make collages?

13. It does strike me as bizarre
I don't mind trying out activities from time to time. But I know what you mean about that collage nonsense.

17. Been there!
I sure can empathize with that statement. In five years teaching, I have yet to be at an in-service that is (a) useful in terms of actual day-to-day teaching (that is, not idealized nonsense), (b) not childish or otherwise ineffective or inappropriate, (c) professional, (d) not basically fifteen minutes of handouts and powerpoint outlines in a binder, presented over a 6 hour period, and (d) worth my time.

Whew! Thanks for letting me vent!

8. Jesus said, "Blessed are you when you are persecuted..."
Trouble is, Christians in American have it so good they have no idea what persecution really is. Being arrested, tortured, killed... that's persecution. Being made fun of on occasion, being asked to respect those who believe differenly or not at all... NOT persecution.

And another thing, the reason one is blessed when under persecution is that God will grant grace and strength to endure it. But when they whine about it so the persecution will stop, they miss the point entirely.

9. They think because THEY can't discriminate against others,
that it somehow is discrimination against them.

It has nothing to do with reality.

10. How, in God's name
can they claim to be the victim of discrimination. Christianity is described as the predominant religion in this country, with church membership said to be growing. They dominate in all things and attempt to shove their doctrine down everyione throat and believe they have the right to decide what everyone else shall think, say, watch and do.

Their big claim is that they are victims because of ACLU activities to maintain a separation of church and state but they are trying their damnnest to establish a state religion.

Discriminated against? Hah!

and then cry discrimination when someone calls them on it.

14. Christian on Christian violence and wars are covered up....
in the schools so-called "history" classes. By ignoring the history of western civilization prior to the founding of the N. American colonies they sidestep one of the major reasons there is a United States.

Our history major pResident seems to have missed all of those classes.

If we remove the seperation of Church and state protections expect to see religious civil wars in the U.S. Nobody really hates gays as much as Catholics and Mormons hate each other.

16. christians
i'm so tired of this christian bullshit. i'm a former catholic who thankfully was not completely brainwashed. i believe in a spiritual god and i resent christianity being shoved down my throat. i can't stand christmas. they just assume that you celebrate it. i make a point of saying "i don't celebrate it -- i'm not a christian".

i tell my husband every year if you need underwear or anything from the mall, buy it before thanksgiving because after that you can't get near the stores or get through the traffic jams. i often wonder what jesus thinks about the whole thing.
